.mkv container killing extenders when media file finishes playback

Hello,

Is anyone else seeing a problem with .mkv files killing extenders when a media file finishes playback?

Everytime I finish watching a media file which is in an .mkv container it kills my extenders......it doesn't seem to affect the server and the only way to get the extender to work again is to power cycle.

It affects both version 6 and 7 and I've tested on WHS and a Win7 64bit server, all extenders are fully updated to latest versions.....basically its 100% reproducible.

All the log reports is:

Code:
Sun 8/29 22:00:27.646 [MediaServerConnection@7db754] Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
Sun 8/29 22:00:27.735 [FinalRender-001d6a5ca8e9@10ab78a] Terminating the BGResourceLoader for the rendering engine
Sun 8/29 22:00:27.735 [FinalRender-001d6a5ca8e9@10ab78a] deinitMini()
Sun 8/29 22:00:29.607 [KillUIMgr@893969] Killed RootPanel
I guess I'll have to file a bug report but I thought I'd ask here first but my guess is its a newer .mkv packing method thats causing the issue.

Cheers

Ben

EDIT

I've attached some mkv info text files as well just in case anyone knows how to read these things and can spot something different......ones a working info file and the other is a non-working version.

File Type: zip mkv_info_files.zip (2.1 KB, 147 views)

I have seen the same thing. If I let the .mkv file run to the very end, the HD100 hangs. If I stop it before the end (during the end titles), it all works fine. The only remedy is to power cycle HD100. I am seeing in on server 7..17 running on CentOS. Did you fill bug report?

I've seen the same thing on my HD200. Most of the time I stop MKVs before the end but the odd time that I do not I have to power cycle my HD200 as well.

I play a lot of MKV files and I haven't seen this yet. However, they don't necessarily go to the end playing normally as I'll often do a few skip forward presses. I'll try to remember to let the file(s) play naturally next time and report back on the results.

I',m exclusively using the file browser for playback of MKV, as I don't use the media import features in Sage.

It's not limited to MKV. I have an AVI that does the exact same thing. If I let it go to the very end of the file it kills the HD200. The thing locks up and shuts down completely. If I try to turn it back on, it will immediately shut itself back off. I have to reboot it for it to start responding again. I can consistently reproduce the problem with the same file but it plays fine in VLC.

However, I also have many MKV's and AVI's that playback fine.

Cool, looks like I'm not the only one......my issue only started two weeks ago and I generally only ever use mkv's so I don't know about avi's. Its definitely not exclusive to Sage version 7 as my proper server still runs version 6.6 and has been fine up and till two weeks ago.

I did send a bug report last night but I guess if we can all send one in then Sage will have a better chance of tracking the bug down and with a faster resolution.......its driving me nuts

Cheers

Ben

I have a similar issue but i'm not using the extender. HD mkv and avi is killing my playback after watching them. I dont have to go all the way to the end of the file. Though i already have my own thread. Just to let you know you are not alone.

After reading this thread, I've had what I believe to be the same problem with my HD100 - a blank screen and no response from the remote other than to power it off. It doesn't occur that frequently (probably because I stop the mkvs before the very end); so I just wrote it off as a minor inconvenience that would get fixed eventually. Now, I'll pay closer attention.

BTW, when you say "power cycle", are you powering down with the remote or totally switching the power off and cold booting?

Pulling the power lead out the back......using the remote to set it to standby has no effect.

Cheers

This issue sounds similar to what is described in the thread below. There is a solution linked in the last post, maybe you can try that and see if it solves your issue as well?

I dont think that will work for me as they are no longer imported media anymore as they've been imported into the Sage Recordings....... I will try that tomorrow tho

Cheers

Just discovered this same problem yesterday. Haven't troubleshooted to see if the MP3 is suspect yet.

On the plus side, the issue i had with .mkv and .avi's is gone.
