Plugin :: Movie Showtimes

This plugin lets you look browse movie showtimes and watch trailers in SageTV.

A quick note about movie trailers:
As of v1.2 I now support high quality trailers from Youtube and http://www.hd-trailers.net/. Between the two of these, I should have trailers available for just about every major movie so theres no need for the asterisks anymore. About the only reason a movie might not have a trailer is if its named strange (Toy Story 3 vs. Toy Story 3 in Disney Digital 3D) or is so obscure that a trailer doesn't exist. In addition, since these are the same high quality trailers that Apple has, I think we can put that topic to bed.

How to submit a bug:
If you run into any problems with the plugin make sure you...
  • Make sure you set your location in the settings screen.
  • If zipcode doesn't work, try entering in your City
  • I pull my showtimes from Google so do a quick search there to see what should be showing up. By default I grab the first two pages of theaters.
  • Tell me what movie/theater/trailer you are missing and what zipcode you used
  • Try entering the plugin through the main menu flyouts and the "More Online Services" button.
  • Include the LOG FILE (!!!!!!!) which can be found at ...
    Code:
    ...\SageTV\SageOnlineServicesEXEs\movieTimes.log

Increase the distance I can pull the theaters from?

EP,
Thanks for this. Installed and pulled up details no problem.

Is there a way to increase the distance I can pull the theaters from?

We have no theaters in our zip code, but each side of us has about 4.

Sometimes we want to shop and go to movies to the west of us, sometimes we want to go to the east side of town. Currently I see 9 theaters, but they are not the ones we go to if going to larger malls.

The two we mainly go to (1 east and 1 west) are a few more miles on. If I use zip code to west of us I get them but not ones to east... you get the picture

Edit - sent address details etc as requested in PM.. thanks

Seconding Crunch above, don't know what you said in the PM, but there are a few theaters near me that are not showing up (and some that are even farther away, are). Is it possible that Movietimes only checks theaters owned by certain companies? Anyway, just wondering if there are tweaks that can be made to get more theaters, or if that's part of MovieTimes and can't be changed....

Otherwise, works flawlessly. Thanks, EP!

I just asked him to let me know what theater he's missing and what zipcode he used, go ahead and do the same.

EP...WOW this is a great plugin! THANKS!

Just wanted to let you know I was inputing my zip code from 10 feet with my remote and fat fingered the incorrect zip. I cannot see where I can go in and modify the zip to the correct one. When I select Enter Zip (at work going from memory) I am presented with a bunch of movies with the Enter Zip at the top but no way to modify it...thoughts?

Cheers!
George

Great job on the plugin. Once you get the support for trailers it will be perfect.

Quick update addressing a lot of user issues. Obviously, the biggest change is that I switched over to Google for grabbing movie times and that should fix all of zipcode problems people have sent me so far. Aside from that there are a few cosmetic changes and I also added some of those trailers people seem to love so much

Movie Times v1.1:
  • 100% more Canada
  • Added trailers if available on Youtube
  • Switched to Google for movie times source
  • Can now input any location (Zip, Address, City, whatever)
  • Added movie info to date field
  • Added theater phone # to date field
  • Improved sorting, theaters are sorted by number of screens and movies are sorted by number of theaters

I can crank out new windows releases very quickly but Linux is a bit of a pain. So once i'm satisfied that the Windows build is stable enough, i'll crank out a linux one.

Movie trailers already? That was fast.

Thanks a lot for the info. It sounds like great plugin so I was wondering if there was a system limitation. Glad there is not.

EP,
Saw the update this morning over breakfast and installed it. I have lots more theaters now - well done. I did not get a chance to play too much, but I did not notice any links to trailers. Where do I find those?

Thanks for the great plugin!

First off, I can only do movies that have official trailers on YouTube, so not every movie is going to have one. To help a bit I added an ambiguous little asterisk to movie details line to let you know which ones have trailers and which ones don't.

Edit: I've added support for additional trailers in v1.2, so hopefully everything should have one now.
