Watching DivX movies on client
Does anybody have watching DivX movies on client working?
I don't know if it's possible but when I try, the client hangs. I have to kill the task to close it! Any suggestion? Thanks Ferdinand

I haven't tried it in a long time actually. But it SHOULD work (it used to anyway).
But I think the last time I tried it was in v1.4... Jason |

DivX and MPEG 2 files work fine for me. I installed the 5.11 divx codec this morning. .wmv and quicktime (.mov, .qt) do not, however. I get this errior:
"There was a DirectShow Error in playback. Details: Default rendering of output pin on source filter failed ErrCode=0x80040200" Is there a quicktime plugin that needs to be fetched? I have quicktime installed on the system and it plays fine from the desktop. Yorick |

ie Movies are in D:\Videos on server you need D:\ mapped to D:\ on the client (I think). |

It's just the regular sagetv install so the recorder and the client are all on the same box. quicktime plays just fine from the desktop so it's installed fine.
Since my post I've found a couple .mov files and a .wmv file that cause the client to hang instead of generating the error, as lost in space describes. Is there a way to make sure sage is looking for codecs in the right place or is windows supposed to handle it? Yorick |

from my understanding, .mov isnt handled by 'conventional' dshow means..
so i would suspect that there needs to be some 'special' support to play qt files (even with qt codecs installed). but then again im no coder, just going off prior experience trying to get .mov support in other apps. |

I am pretty sure Sage can't play QT files. I know for SURE it can NOT play windows media files AT ALL. This lack of support REALLY sucks (for those of us with many WMA/WMV/MOV files) and may be one thing that ultimately drives me back to Beyond TV if/when they get multiple tuner and client support.
Sorry. I would suggest submitting a bug/request for support of these media types. Jason Quote:

all my movie trailers are in mov format.
im sure someone will/can release a plugin after 2.0 hits the streets to play mov, wma, rm, whatever else you want. assuming of course you had the codecs for it. |

Maybe, but I wouldn't assume that... The response from Frey so far has been "no Sage can't play those files, and likely won't in the future". Ok, that is not a direct quote, but pretty darn close.
Here's hoping though. Jason Quote:

If a plug-in can be done that bypasses SageTV's media playing engine it could be done. Though it would not stream out to the client.
