Amex Digital MP-501 1080p media player

Hi, Very long time user of Sagetv, from version 2.0.

I am still using my client PC's and one MediaMVP. I have held off buying an extender since simply I didnt need one and the price of 200 was a little too much for something I didnt need.

But... I just saw this item on engadget, 50 bucks for what appears to be a full extender.

Any way to get this to work with sagetv? I am assuming it has a linux operating system.

Any chance this could be the next sage extender?

See anything missing from this extender that sage has?

If you want any sort of integration, more than just playing files (ie the Sage UI) you have to use a SageTV extender, no other option. They're well worth it IMO (whenever they're back in stock of course).

There are many network Media Playback devices. Just about anyone who sells hard drives or capture cards has one. If you don't want direct integration with Sage (meaning LiveTV, EPG, scheduling recordings, etc) then any one of them will probably be proficient. You just share your network drive and play from there. For integration (as Stanger stated), you can only use Sage Media Extenders (or the original Hauppauge MediaMVP).
