ugh, can't get HDHR to do QAM nice
Trying to get my new HDHR to do QAM from my fios line.
I've set up the hdhr properly -- i can view TV from its interface, the channel names are good, it works perfectly from there. I've tried every permutation of channel tuning guide data source guide data treatment (copy, unique, etc) I've followed this to the letter: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...light=hdhr+qam and every other combination of things i can think of. When i follow that guide, i get all the shows and proper data showing up, but when i go to tune a channel, i get "no signal". The names in the guide are right, the channel numbers correspond to what i put into the HDHR setup, it all looks good! I just can't tune. When i do any other combination, i'll either get no signal or i'll get "no data" for every channel in the guide for that tuner. I'm giving up on this for now, hopefully someone can provide some insight. Any ideas? Thanks Eric

When you do the channel scan in Sage does it scan through relitively quickly or does sage actualy performa full scan that takes several minutes? Check to make sure that you see the Siliconddust HDHOMeRun frq and scn files in your Sagetv directory.

Depending on one of the choices i make along the way, it sometimes takes a long time and finds more channels than i want (none of which work), or sometimes finds just the right number of channels (which also don't work, but have good guide data)

Edit: I've done a lot more playing, and what it comes down to, i think, is tuning. I can get it to tune no problem with the "view" button in the hdhr setup software, but there doesn't seem to be a combination of settings to pick that results in sage being able to tune *anything* on the unit. Just a blank screen and "no signal". I've even disabled all channels but one and re scanned, it found the 1 channel, but can't tune it. Any ideas?

Ok, got it working, recorded a few things overnight.
For anyone who has the same problem as me in the future: No matter what you think, when you save the channel list in the hdhr software, make sure sage is completely shut down. This seems to have been my problem -- never got a real error, it just didn't work. Next issue: I recorded a few things overnight, one of which caused a yellow "i" in the upper right, signal lost, going to reset. Do i have a weak signal? thanks

ericsottf, I'm glad you got it working finally.
That said, in any future endeavour regarding changing SageTV settings while not directly using SageTV itself.....shutdown the SageTV service first. Especially the .prop files for clients/server. I have an HDHR myself and initially did what you did, but also, like you, shutdown SageTV service to get it working. Now, whenever I change anything outside of the GUI, I shutdown SageTV first. -B |

Yeah, it was stupid of me -- but i was recording things at the time, so i didn't want to shut down. It seemed like things were very close, and i didn't get the feeling that the problem (inability to tune) was due to something being locked or not getting reset, so i didn't think to shut down.
Next time, I'll just be more patient and wait until nothing is recording to make my changes..

Signal strength was over 95% whenever i was looking in the hdhr software. Is there any other cause for such an error message?
Would be neato if the plugin could record strength over time and store it for later viewing...
