Media Extender Feature Required to work with SageTV

I am shopping for a media extender for my SageTV and I would like to know what features I should be looking for in order to ensure that it will work with SageTV.

You can only use Sage Media Extenders (HD200 & HD100) with Sage and the Hauppauge MediaMVP...

HD200's are out of stock I think, you may be able to find one of these models on Ebay... Media MVP is only for standard def, no hi-def. There have been unsubstantiated rumors of a HD300, but it is likely more speculation than anything.

Good luck. For now you'll have to wait unless you can score an extender somewhere else.

I think we moved beyond speculation on the HD300 when Sage started putting out release notes with items like "Updated for HD200 and up".

The HD200 has been out of stock for months with now sign of new stock or a new Sage hardware extender being released.

An alternative given the unavailability of a the HD200 is to use a netbook or similar low powered PC as a SageTV client. You can find cheap PCs at near to the $200 price of the dedicated extender. It's a bit more hassle to set up & may not handle 1080p video well but it is of course a full blown PC with a browser that can be used for all sorts of other activity.
