1. See the wiki there is a tool for automoving your movies into their own folders as well as a couple of pages back a sage user posted on that even moves the property files (i suggest using his). MyMovies is folder based not movie based for monitoring they need to be in their own folders. I don't control this and can't change it. 2. Horizontal menu is doable please bug it so I dont forget. 3. YOu can change the genre icons and backdrops to whatever you want see the customization part in the wiki. 4. Not under my control as I don't write or manager the CM tool this is how it keeps backups for reimporting. The ones actually used are in a different location right now. I would imagine there is 0 percent chance of this changing. cheers |

Pluckyhd, I guess it does help to read the wiki. There should be an a next gen achronym.. RTFW Anyway, none of the items I mentioned are real issues to me; especially since in the end it will all work fine with very little effort on my part; but, had to ask.
I'll be sure to file a request for a horizontal menu. I downloaded the genre pack below.. the only difference is its vertical for My Movies on SageTV. Im guessing eventually SageTV MyMovies can look like this too: Thanks, Mike Quote:

Believe it or not horizontal is how I had it coded originally. But then I wanted to show then movies in each genre like it does so I switched for better flow. I can easily make a horizontal but it will not have the option to show the movies in each group like the vertical does.

That is originally what it was but me and peter decided it didn't flow very well.

I am not a designer by any step, but what if it was pure coverflow? (because that flows beautifully) and if you hit "down" covers hide and genres coverflowed, then up and genres hide and back to the filter list so to speak. So basically only one is viewable at any time.
Functioning basically as coverflow with a "genre" or "category" filter option.

Plucky, at least for me, the reason I suggested a Horizontal based Genre view was to be able to see more Genres on the screen without visual effects/functionality compromise. I was hoping the same visual effects and functionality as in the vertical view. I'm trying to envision something like that.. but I know there will be some stuff that might not be so obvious on what to do; like placement of the word "New Movies". I really like that blue flashlight effect for the new movies (especially with the black theme); and hope cool effects like that wont be lost.

I will see what I can come up with (won't be in the next build as it is pretty much wrapped up for private beta).
I searched high and low for the dual view I had in groups I sent it to peter but couldn't find it maybe he will. Here are some original horizontal ones I had before I added the new movies being shown as well. Of course the icons where changeable. This are really old and not around anymore |

Genre Suggestions
PluckyHD, I have some enhancement ideas to throw your way (and for others to consider). I'm very curious to know if there's cool way of implementing something along the lines of Suggestion #3. Maybe someone can think of a cool way of doing it.
Suggestion 1: Displaying the Genre screen with the first 5 genres automatically: Currently, when I enter the Genre view, I only see the "Action" and "Adventure" genres at the bottom left of the screen. I need to press the down button on my remote control 3 times just to populate the left side of the screen with the first 5 genres every time. I would be nice to see all the Genres when entering the screen. Suggestion 2: I apologize for repeating this again... but the reason I had originally requested a horizontal based Genre view was not just to have another cool way to look at the Genres; but from a practical standpoint of being able to fit more Genres icons going across a 16:9 screen (keeping Suggestion #1 in mind as well). Based on the current vertical genre icon sizes in respect to the screen space available; it looks like 9 Genre icons can fit perfectly going horizontally across the screen. Suggestion 3: Speaking of fitting more Genre icons on the screen at once... How would you (and others) feel about adding a next-gen version of SageMC's My Videos Genre view.. where the most possible Genre icons can be seen on the screen at once... taking advantage of unused space on the screen. The only problem I see here would be to think of a clever way of also previewing the New Movies of the highlighted Genre without making a cluttered mess After seeing the current "Blue-flashlight New Movies preview" special effect for vertical genres (or whatever you call it); I can't imagine sacrificing that cool special effect/feature just to fit a few more genres on the screen. Suggestion 4: What do you guys think of the option so when a Genre is selected (pressing Select on the Genre icon), the screen would switch to a user-defined view displaying either (Wall View, List View, Coverflow View, Poster View, etc) of the movies in that genre? Suggestion 5: Making the number of Genre icons user-definable; scaling things respectively. Perhaps, you guys already tried this and realize any smaller would be too small and any bigger would show too few genres... Anyway, I thought I'd through this idea your way in case you think its a good idea. Peace, Mike

#3 that is kind of coming as well you will be able to view genres in any view (wall view, poster view, etc) with custom made posters (working on these) #4 already possible you can click on any genre before hitting right to "drill down" the view and sort is stored for each group so you can have one genre that goes to coverflow and another that goes to list or whatever (hit favorite on any genre to change the drilldown. I would wait until I release a horizontal menu and see how that goes/works. |

Another suggestion... source directory
Within the My Movie Collection Management, there does not seem to be a way to determine the source directory of the DVDs listed on the left side of the screen. If a DVD has a strange name, it is sometimes difficult to figure out the source directory where the DVD files are stored for a particular DVD on the list. Perhaps an when right clicking on a DVD item on the list could give the option to show the source DVD directory.

In My Movie Collection Management click on the Disc(s) icon and you should see where it has determined the path to the files. You will always find the source directory for the DVDs here. Refer to the actual My Movie wiki and documentation for extensive information on how the Collection Management software works.

Fanart backgrounds - SageTV 7 Central Fanart folder
Plucky thanks for answering all my suggestions. I'm glad to see you guys are way ahead of me; and, have already thought of many of these things.
One thing I noticed when looking at the fanart (when scrolling through New Movies in each Genre), that the picture quality for many of the fanart backgrounds used by My Movies are not as clear/detailed as the ones I'm used to seeing with SageTV 7 + phoenix/BMT plugin on my 1080p displays (I didnt rescale the My Movies backgrounds either). That's when I realized that My Movies may not be using the background images that are in SageTV Central Fanart folder. Personally, I already have over 4000 movie backgrounds sitting in the SageTV Central Fanart folder. I could be wrong, but, Im guessing that My Movies downloads fanart for movies regardless of what's in the Central Fanart Folder. Anyway, if I am right about this, could you please consider to add an option for My Movies to use sageTV 7's Central Fanart Folder please? Thanks, Mike

The quality isn't any worse though from what I have seen are you sure you just don't have the background fade on and it is fading it out some which can make it look lower quality. |

I completely agree with the poll; Im not sure who wouldnt. Im guessing by your wording it was definitely planned, but didnt have enough time to get it in before the first release. All my effects and settings are at the My Movies defaults; except, I'm using the black theme. Not all the images look worse.. just some some; at least, enough for me to notice. Plus, there are multiple background images for phoenix.. some which look soso and others that look great; so the chances of seeing a nicer background/higher quality are higher with phoenix. Anyway, thanks for explaining.

I have noticed a lot of the covers that are downloaded from MyMovies are very washed out. Resolution is fine, it's just when people scanned them, they are in need of some tweaking of the levels. Is this what you are seeing?
