I just unistalled Sage 6.6 and installed the latest WHS Sage 7 beta and updated the firmware on my HD100. List view is slow, but bearable, but the other views are pretty much unsusable. Wall view is by far the worst. This one will pause for several seconds at a time. If I go to options, it can freeze for up to a minute at a time and takes about 15 to 20 seconds to respond to each key press.

I've disabled FadePostersIn (no green light) and disabled all the animations/halos as well as reduced the number of covers on the wall. It helped somewhat but it still extremely slow. I have also tried to rescale fanart with no success in speeding it up. It has been installed for two days with no change in speed.

FWIW, the normal Sage 7 Videos by DVD title seems sluggish as well. It scrolls alright but the covers are slow to load.

Everything seems to run fine on my normal PC client in another room.

I have HD100 and HD200, and find the HD100 to be slower as well. I have done the things Plucky has mentioned (turn on animations, poster fade in off, lower timeout) but does not help much. Perhaps the HD100 is not fully up to it, but it does still work.

Cool! Thanks for the explanation as I didn't really know what/how they worked but then hadn't looked into it much either.

Would you like me to put this on the Google page for you to look into?

Also, just a suggestion... what do you think about making another thread that is related to Sage My Movies but deals with questions related ONLY to My Movies/Collection Manager? Yes, I know, these type questions can be asked over at their own forum but I think it would be handy/beneficial to have a thread related to the functions/features of My Movies/Collection Manager and how those can be used with Sage My Movies... and keep the questions and answers all right here in the Sage forums for all users to see. An example post in that thread would be exactly what we are talking about here with the QuickFilters. Just an idea! I know I'm new to Collection Manager and have a lot of questions and feel more at "home" here than I do at their forums so would love to ask some questions which aren't really appropriate for this thread. For people who want to participate in the other thread, that would be great but wouldn't be something anybody would need to feel "obligated" to help with if you know what I mean

Thanks again!

IPHONE PRO APP

Hey guys this requires points but it pretty cool if you are like me and sometimes at the video store forget what all is in your large collection at home. I have bought repeat movies more than once.

Points I am sure make it a whole lot easier but for those of us just testing the water, this works. Go to http://www.themoviedb.org/ (I am sure there are others) and search for the movie that you want. Download the selected backdrop to the root directory of your DVD and name it backdrop.jpg.

That's it, pretty simple.
And I thought I would also share some knowledge on filling in backdrops where themoviedb.org is missing them - SMM is impressive under any circumstance, but so much more so (IMO) when the entire collection has the backdrops. So, if you're "testing the water" and have gaps that can't be filled by themoviedb.org, create your own very easily as follows.
  1. Download VLC, an very powerful open-source (free) media player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/).
  2. Setup Snapshot preferences (I think it's under Tools/Preferences/Snapshots): (a) to include the directory where snapshots will be saved, (b) to save snapshots with a ".jpg" extension, (c) to use "backdrop_" as the preface to each snapshot's filename and (d) add the Snapshot toolbar for convieniently taking a snapshot with a single mouse-click (there is also a Video menu item to do this).
  3. Drag and drop your mkv, mp4, dvd folder, etc. onto VLC.
  4. Disable subtitles under the Video menu, if necessary.
  5. Use the time bar and Pause/Play to move through the movie and select frames that you believe will make a good backdrop.
  6. Simply click the Snapshot icon while the movie is paused and your "backdrop_xxxxxxx.jpg" is saved to the previously chosen directory.
  7. Edit the filename so that only "backdrop.jpg" remains; then cut-and-paste this file to to correct folder for use by SMM.

For each movie backdrop that I processed this way, I would quickly find scenes that appeared suitable and take multiple snapshots, then select one and delete the others. After some trial and error with a few movies, I became fairly proficient at the process (in the humble opinion of a non-artistic nerd). Note: If your jpg files are "squashed" as mine were, you may need to set the aspect ratio as fixed (e.g., 16:9).

This addon is amazing , thank you very very much Plucky for all your hard work!

I'm disappointed by the poor results from the Similar Movies button -it does not seem to work as I would expect. So I know where to post my issue, Is your SageTV addon reliant on the Similar Movies API/SQLQUERY(?) of MyMovies or a something local ?
I upgraded to MYMOVIES 2500 points to get Similar Movies but it made no difference to my search results, eg. when on a Bond movie similar Movies does not list other Bond Movies in my collection !

That is the first I have seen this. Similar movies is based on mymovies sql functions. It always seems to work really well on my collection surprised you are not seeing the same. I would post over at mymovies forum and see what they say.

About 80% of my movie displayed in My Movies after the second installation, which was successful. I added front and back artwork to 3 items and did a import scan with SageTV. After the input scan, all the artwork is gone from all the movies, except for the 3 movies that I added artwork.

Is there a way to re-scan the library or some other method so that all the artwork picked up in the installation plus my added artwork appears?

Ahh man

Do we really have to use MyMovies and SQL2005 to make this work? I think your plugin is wonderful and I used it in Sage v.6 but working in My Movies, the third party app, is cumbersome and an extra step I really wish I didn't have to take. All of my structure for my DVDs, MKVs, etc are just how I like them presented in Sage (folder view) but making My Movies replicate how I want it displayed within Sage is a pain. Example: I'm going through The Big Bang Theory. I have 63 episodes. My Movies has 63 entries for "The Big Bang Theory The Complete Collection Season 1" (even though 63 episodes are season 1, 2 and 3). I know I'm supposed to create a virtual directory, add the files to the virtual, click some check box here, do this, do that.... I already have the stucture built in my Import directory. Plus I have to "earn points" to get HD background images? Ugh. Maybe I'm missing something here? Educate me or or show me a post I missed that explains "The Lazy Admin for Sage My Movies". Like I said, I LOVE the visuals you've added, I love how the plugin works in the Sage side... great work.

I don't recommend using SMM for TV shows or even "box sets" like multiple episodes of a show spread across multiple DVDs.

I think MyMovies and subsequently SMM is really made for movies not for television episodes.

Yup there is a reason it is called My"Movies"

It actually works pretty well for tv shows ripped in full dvd's but does terrible for individual episodes as it was not meant to be used that way. TV support is coming but don't know when.

That looks right not sure why you would be having speed issues...I don't have a hd100 but know I had testers that did and never had any issues with speed.

Well i use an HD100 and the performance has been fine with a large collection. Turning the background delay from .5 seconds to 2.5 seconds made a huge difference.

Hi All... Getting things kind of working but I have a question. I have been trying to get posters to download but I am not able to. I have no idea why they aren't downloading for me. I signed up for the trial of MyMovies and that is letting me download backgrounds now but posters won't show up for some reason. Anyone know why this would be?

Thanks,
Quaz

You have to allow time for it download and scale the posters. It takes a bit. Also the service must continue running for it to happen.

Thanks JP, I will give this a shot. Not home now, but is that a custom setting under the views?

I have left it on for days, but get no posters either. I also signed up for the 21 day trial and it shows 2500 points.

You have sagetv service running?

Have you tried stopping and restarting the service?

Send in your logs if still no go.
