Sage picking SD over HD...
I'm sure I saw something about this somewhere but I tried a search and couldn't find anything similar..
Sage seems to be picking the SD version over the HD version for some channels. My firewire tuner has both Disney and DisneyHD. IT seems to correctly choose DisneyHD over regular Disney. I checked the favorite and it doesn't have any channels set. Now onto a NIK show.. It records NIK over NIKHD. Again no channel preferences are in the favorite. Oh.. and the all the channels are available on the tuner it recored on. So it's not like one tuner didn't have the HD channels. I thought it would always choose HD over SD if both were available? I don't remember a channel priority.. is there? It's gotta be something stupid I missing... Thanks, Jim V6.6.2.218 |

If the EPG data doesn't say it is HD, there is nothing to base a choice on.
When both the SD and HD channels are available on a single tuner, you are probably better off simply disabling the SD channel. It may make help to have the SD channel available on a different tuner as a backup in case all the HD-capable tuners are in use, but there isn't really a need to have SD & HD on the same tuner when they both air the same things. - Andy

That's it.. MickeyMouse Clubhouse on DISN has the HD tag. Team Umizoomi on NIK does not!
I knew it had to be something stupid! Yeah.. I probably should disable the SD channels... Can you see what the focus of shows are in our house!! Jim "Someday my TV will be devoid of kids shows!" |

It would be GREAT to be able to assign channel priorities in Sage however. For situations where both SD and HD broadcasts exist, even on different channels.
The priority would allow more flexibility than simply saying "this channel is HD" - which would otherwise also be a good addition. The HD marker on the data feed can be hit and miss sometimes, and I myself have been caught by it just last week. For whatever reason that week's episode of Hell's Kitchen was not marked as HD and Sage started recording of an SD channel - likely because it's a lower number. My solution is to restrict the favorite to only the HD channel. But that can also bite one in the ass because it doesn't allow for the ability to record from a different channel if that tuner is busy with something else.

Perhaps Andy or another SageTV developer could add another item to the Favorites config screen. Add 'Preferred Channels', based on the existing 'Channel' item (channels to limit recording to, Default:ANY), as a subset of the existing channel list for this favorite. Of course, since this adds another field to the Favorites database, it may not be a quickie to add.
Edit: To clarify the above, you could add both your SD and HD channels to the regular channel list for a favorite, but only your preferred HD channel to the 'Preferred Channels' list. SageTV would then try your preferred channels first, then if none are available, try the regular list. Last edited by RobJ; 07-29-2010 at 12:37 PM. Reason: clarification |

Hell's Kitchen has never had the HD flag set in my EPG data (from Zap2It). I've been begging Z2I to fix that for 2 or 3 seasons now. They haven't so I've simply given in and restricted the fav to the HD channels. But as you mention, this is not an ideal solution b/c inevitably, an unnecessary conflict will arise (I only have one HD-PVR and so only one source of HD content).
