losing data and network drives with 2.0

This might be a question for 1.14 as well.. but it's my understanding that if you have files on a network drive and if you shut off the computer that has the network drive on it, Sage will delete all info about the shows that were recorded on that drive? Is that true?

Will 2.0 Address this? (Has there already been a thread about this?)

I want to add network drives but I also don't want to lose any info if the connection is lost or I have to reboot the computer with the network drive.

How do most of you handle network drives??

Thanks,

Jim

This is how it will work in 2.0. Try and figure out a way for Sage to know the difference between a file that has been deleted and a file that it is no longer able to access.

If it sees that it can't access the whole directory, then I would hope that it could say.. OH that whole directory isn't there.. I'd better not delete the info about those shows just yet..

It could also post a message that it can't access X drive.

There are probably lots of ways to do this!

Yep, exactly.

I had SageTV setup to look for improted videos on a network drive from another computer. I mapped the drive to Z:

Unfortunatly, trying to watch video over a 802.11b network is impossible. Works great for MP3s, but Video sucks. 11g was too expensive at the time I built up this leg of the Home network - 5 PCs and counting!! I see now where DLink has the double 11g out (104Mbps). Wonder if this is fast enough for MPEG2 streaming...

On a tangent, is that a Yellow Lab with the baby?

If so, how old is she/he. My 2 yr old female refuses too stay still. She is reverting back to her puppy stage also. She used to be trusted alone in the house for 10hrs. Now she tears aparts pillows, blankets, rugs - so back to being locked into a cage all day.

I not sure if I'd trust mine with a baby yet!

She is a yellow lab. She's just over a year old. She's got the best temperment. She's not too hyper and not too calm. she goes to doggie day care (can you believe there is such a thing!) And that takes away a bunch of her energy. I think we just got lucky with her.

any way.. back to the subject!!

PS. I'm glad to see another dog avatar. There were just too many cats!!

how do newtork drives work with sage?

1. I hope they can address this in a (near) future release.

2. How exactly does this work?

If sage is running and not accessing anything on the network drive and I lose the network drive, will it delete all my show info?

if no... Then will it delete all my show info if I try to play a file from the network drive and the drive isn't there?

What happens if it tried to record to a network drive that's not there.

Or does sage only do house cleaning when it first starts up.

I can live with (for now) if Sage will only delete the show info when it starts up and looks for all the shows. If it will keep the show info if the network drive loses connection while sage is ruunning, then I can be content. I really want to use a network drive because My one drive is already too warm and I can't cool it because it's a small case. I can't add another disk because of thermal reasons.

Suggustions???

I think this is working now. pretty sure I have lost network recently (linksys router failed in the heat) but all may Sage recordings were still there when things were restored.

Sage may have crashed though...

this is RC2

If I use a network drive and it goes away, when does the show info get deleted? Only on sage start? If I try to access something? how does this work.

I just got a second drive and I want to make it a network drive but I'm leary.

I can confirm this is fixed for V2.0 (it was fixed in RC3).

Jeff,

What was fixed? Sage will now wait for the directory to come back on line before it will delete shows?

I'm still using 1.4 I can't get playback to work right yet with 2.0
(I need to play still to get the right combination of codecs and overlay/VRM9)

How does it work with 1.4? Will it delete instantly? or will it only delete when Sage first starts up?

Thanks,

Jim "Wish I had more time to play with RC3"
