Dish network in Long Island NY

I am probably going to be shortly switching to Dish Network from Cablevision. I remember somewhere a discussion about dish network receivers using RF instead of IR. Can anyone shed any light? Do I have to make sure I get a specific receiver in order to control it with IR? I am using a USB-UIRT with two extra emitters hooked to it to control my current two cablevision boxes.

Thanks

Rob

I have not personally used any of the new VIP models however, the previous recivers that used RF also accepted IR as well. I have used the 711 DVR model with the USB-UIRT as well as the 301 basic models.

I have VIP 711s because I prefer having 2 recievers rather than 1.
I control it with a USBUIRT via ir.

The second room on a Duo uses RF for the remote control, you can easily get around this by getting a TV2IR kit from dishstore.net. I use 2 of them with my 2 Vip222k recievers, never a trouble once setup.

The only limitation is you can only use TV2 remote address 1, so with a USBUIRT you can have a maximum of 3 Duos controlled by SageTV.

FYI, the first box on the account is included in the ad price so a duo will save you $7/mo as compared to 2 solo boxes. Afterwards it makes no difference $7 per outlet.

Sadly this is the only source I know of. All authorized retailers should have access to it though.

Yup he was, you can get 6 leased outlets but they will be 3 Duo units. You can purchase many boxes though. The limit is for leased stuff.

Don't sign that the installation was completed to your satisfaction until it is.
