Unhappy Problem with conflict handling

Sage keeps notifying me of conflicts it knows how to handle, and nothing I do will remove the conflict icon.

Example: I have the following set up in my priorities, "Zoboomafoo" (priority 20) is below Buffy (priority 16). I always want Buffy to be recorded over Zoboomafoo

I'm prompted by sage that the following conflicts with other recordings:

"Zobomafoo" at 8:00 AM on 16 WGBX from Favorite Zoboomafoo"

When I select the heading, I get three options:

1) Do Nothing - which does what it says, but does not clear the conflict icon.

2) Override the single Favorite recording of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" at 8:00AM ... to record "Zoboomafoo" - which is not what I want, since I told it Buffy takes precidence over Zoboomafoo

3) ALWAYS have Zoboomafoo override the Favorite recording of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Nooo!

How do I get Sage to stop nagging me with these non-conflicts. There is no conflict, I want Buffy to be recorded!

The ordering of the favorite list does not mean much when it comes to handling conflicts like this. However, you should have gotten more choices than what you god (second copy of choices with programs switched). Submit a bug and about it.

I thought this was the whole point of the ordering of the favorites? It scheduled the higher rated fav first & then noted a conflict for the 2nd fav. The problem seems to be that you can't tell it to stop bothering you about the conflict & that the fav preference really is what you want.

Here is a quote:

"The conflict icon appears if a favorite doesn't have a specific (or
inferred) stronger/weaker priority over the favorite its conflicting
with."

Moving the items around in the list has never worked for me. Only selecting a choice from the conflict box. Seems if it exclusively used the list order it would be easier. Or maybe it is a bug in how it is supposed to work.

Either way a bug report with a link to this thread should solve something.

Yes, maybe something isn't working correctly... I'm not sure what the point of being able to reorder the fav list would be otherwise. On the other hand, there is no real manual yet, so perhaps I'm reading something into what reordering the fav list accomplishes.

Where was that quote from, by the way? I don't remember whether v1.4 allowed the fav list to be reordered; if not, it would make sense if it referred to that version.

That quote was from an email I got from Narflex where I was asking how the heck that favorite list worked . The is just a small part of all the background tasks going on to generate it.

I've sumbitted a bug report. IMO, with mandatory favorite prioritization, like what Sage has, there shoudl be no such thing as a conflict involving two favorites.

Boy, do I agree with that!!!

I set up the priority in the order I wanted them recorded in. Don't complain, just record them based on priority (which it does anyway when the time comes to record them).

I'm glad it reports conflicts, that way I know that something isn't going to be recorded.

The conflict report is good. It allows you to see and make a change if you so desire. If you dont, leave it alone and it will sort it out using the favorites list. Also, if you select "do nothing" the conflict icon DOES go away. Just check it periodically. As long as the listed conlict is what not what you WANT to record there is no problem.

The conflict icon should be there to act as a "Please add more PVR-250's to your Sage server" indicator

AHH, it's the "Never Ending Conflict" thread all over again. I really hope this is fixed in RC3 since I filed a bug report back on 4/24. Please make the conflict icon usefull again, by making it go away after the conflict has been veiwed. My wife REALLY hates that conflict icon always setting in our systray.

I agree, I hate the fact that my Tivo doesn't let me know when there is a conflict. Sometimes I may wish to override it. Let's face it with a finite number of tuners and a very long favorites list, there's no way Sage is always going to make the decision I want. No matter how smart Jeff makes Sage's IR. Unless he's about to add ESP.

Why would you want the icon to go away after the conflict has been viewed? Does the conflict still exist? Then the icon should still be displayed.

You would want the icon to go away if you choose to "unlfag" it by saying Do Nothing. An above poster says it already does this so that is fine. I would not want it to be removed from the list of shows that won't record though (which it does not). If the icon does go away as suggested above, all should be fine.

That icon does go away... I've got a conflict listed where I chose Do Nothing a while back & there is no icon on the main menu.

I've been playing with it and I think it might be an issue with multiple overlapping Favorites. Either way I've got conflicts icons listed that never go away, at least not until that particuliar conflict's day/time passes anyway. In the case of my setup I must get soo many of these conflicts that I've always got new ones to replace the old as they fall off the list. On average I have about 3-5 conflicts listed. The Icons never go away, unless I override the conflict recording. Viweing the Conflict does nothing for me.

Sounds like you need more encoder cards.

True you can never have enough, but Sage should still be able to handle conflicts without infinite cards.

I always like to schedule more than I know can be recorded. This way Sage will record whatever it can and I'll have lots of shows to watch when I want. I do the same thing on my Tivo, though it is much less efficient at finding the most effiecient(read record the most shows possible) way to handle it.
