Still no backgrounds!

I am running the latest V7 of SageTV and my central fan art folder is fully populated but I still (I have been messing with this problem for weeks) do not get backgrounds in either the standard V7 UI or in SageMC.

The latest versions of jetty and Phoenix are installed. I can access them using the web interface but no joy.

I have enabled fanart in every place that it can be. I have tried two different central fanart folder locations; the default and one on a different HDD.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The more complicated it is the more likely it will break!

Do you have the fanart plugin by bialo installed ? (even with that I don't think there is anything that gives you full page backgrounds like sagemc it isn't built into the default)

Yes I have the fanart plugin by bialo installed.

I tried to get the fanart working months ago when I was still using SageTV v6 but was not successful. When I upgraded to SageTV v7 I simply installed v7 over v6.... can you think of something that may be left over from my failed attempt in v6? I did use the jar file from the bmt thread to clean up my JAR folder and that seemed to speed up navigation but did not help with the fanart.

As I said above the fanart does not work in either the default UI or in SageMC.

Is there some log file or something that I can post that might help diagnose this problem?

Thanks!

Is your fanart on a local disk or a network drive? If it is a network drive, and you are running as a service, you would need to set the sage service to run as an authorized user for the share.

Thanks,
Jeff

It is on a local drive. I have also tried using the default which is C:\Program Files\SageTV\....\Fanart.

What plugin/thingy is actually responsible for getting the background image from the central Fanart folder and displaying it?

Check and make sure your directory structure is like this:

Fanart\Movies\MovieTitle\Backgrounds\image.jpg
Fanart\Movies\MovieTitle\Posters\image.jpg

Make sure the extension is .jpg and not .jpeg.

Also make sure MovieTitle is exactly the same as it is in your import directory.

I have verified that my directory structure is the same as what you suggest.

The extensions are .jpg although some of the files are jpg but do not have any file extension. However, at least one of the files does have the .jpg extension.

MovieTitle is exactly the same as it is in my import directory.

Does it matter that there is fanart and cover art in each of the folders where the video is located?

Do backgrounds work in the V7 non MC UI?

NO except in areas where bailo has added support. It is not supported by default.

That is what I thought and is why I have been trying to get the backgrounds to work in SageMC. See my post above for a screen shot.

What mechanism is used to get the background .jpg from the central fanart folder to being displayed?

I think I had this problem until I scaled the images. Have you scaled them in the options?

I have scaled them several times and confirmed that they are around 247x164 in size.

I stopped working on this for a while in anticipation of the MyMovies plugin but then got to thinking that I may have the same issue with that.... is that possible?

That depends. If you have the mymovies points and plan on using it for downloading backgrounds then no this will have no effect as it is a different system altogether.

If you don't have the points and still plan on using BMT to gather your backgrounds then you could still have the same issue but unlikely.

I have the points and have been a long time user of MyMovies. Getting the backgrounds has turned out to be easy in comparison to getting them to be displayed. Will the MyMovies plugin use a different method of displaying the backgrounds? I am confused as to how the backgrounds are displayed now. What could prevent them from being displayed given that the folder structure is correct, the folder location is correct, the file type and file extension is correct, all of the correct plugins are installed and fanart is enabled?

If you have the points don't worry it will be displayed in mymovies correctly as I use a their folder stucture not bmt's and they will be automatically downloaded from mymovies service.

I think I will keep dinking around with this but I will be all over the MyMovies plugin when it comes out.

I did not mean to put any pressure on you. I know that you are putting a huge amount of work into the plugin.
