Time on SageTV

I have noticed that the system time on my machine that SageTV (Server) is running on is getting ahead of itself. Initially recordings were starting and ending 5 minutes late, etc.. The clock changing is not consistant. Yesterday I had a 6 minute change. I reset and rebooted the clock last night. This morning I noticed a 35 minute change. Again reset clock and rebooted. Yesterday I had the Sync Time with Sage Server set then I disabled but this mornings variance was even more concerning. I have not seen the time variances except when SageTV was running.

Haven't noticed as drastic change as 35 minutes but I have noticed that recordings seem to be late getting started by a minute or two lately. I switched the way my clock gets updated from letting Sage handle it to using the NIST time server through the Windows clock. Don't know if that has helped yet or not.

Can't really tell yet if it is just certain networks, or everything.

I noticed this back in 1.4.1. Switched to letting XP update itself and disable sage's sync.

Is it possible to change the default start and end times of recordings, perhapes including seconds? I'd love to set it to record 30 seconds before a show begins, and then cut off the last 30 seconds at the end.. some channels are slower than others *lol*

I have been having about half my shows start 30 seconds late lately. (Not all of them, though).

I will disable sync to Sage time and sync with Windows and see if it helps.

Has anyone figured out the best padding for Comedy Central? I've noticed on almost all my Comedy Central recordings that they've been off. From what I hear, it seems that Comedy Central is always off on their timing.

The main problem is that EPG data is just a guess -- there really needs to be some kind of JIT service. I'm just blue-skying here, this is completely impractical -- now.

But a simple case is: the big game runs 1 hour 08 minutes late. Various things may be preempted or "joined in progress", because the late news will proably run, &c. What's missing in the foodchain is some way to communicate this kind of thing to the world.

The cable/sat. operators obviously have this sort of data available, as Digital TV and PVRs take off they need to find a way to make it digitally available.

Opportunity for somebody, who wants it?

You might be interested to know that there were some comments on this type of data being sent in the program stream near the beginning of this thread: No PVR records Sports Overtimes correctly.

one minute on both ends seems to be plenty to make sure I don't miss a second of my shows, I also have a synch program running in the background keeping my clock in synch every 20 minutes...seems a bit overkill, but it has helped.

The problem with padding is with back to back shows but now that Chappelle is moving to Tuesday Night atleast SouthPark and he won't conflict... : )

Comedy Central is pretty bad about timing, but MTV is FAR worse!!

PC's are really bad at keeping the correct time. It is not unheard of for a PC to lose (or gain) several minutes a day. I think sage and Windows update the time every 24 hours. You might try looking for a freeware application to update the time more frequently. I've also seen the time be way off when the bios battery is low. This should not be a problem on an HTPC since it is always on.

I have automochron (sp?) updating my system time every 6 minutes. So far it has worked with every channel I record EXCEPT for Comedy Central. Looks like I'll just have to get more tuners so I can put padding on my recordings without having conflicts.
