NVIDIA GT230 and HDMI... no sound?
Hey Guys!
Still troubleshooting an issue and wondering if anybody has any ideas? I use my HTPC to sometimes surf the web and do other stuff besides just SageTV. But, even with a 65" LCD TV, the text is WAY small and very hard for me to read when I have it set to the native 1920x1080 resolution. The fix for this (I'm thinking) is to use my NVIDIA GT230 card (taken out of an Acer 5800 computer) and use the DVI output of the card to the VGA input of the TV (using an adapter) at a lower resolution and then use the HDMI output of the card to my Pioneer AV receiver which then goes to my TV via HDMI to watch SageTV in the native 1920x1080 resolution. Well, I got the video part of this working (or at least I think I do... it may be losing its mind when I turn the TV off but that's a different problem) but as soon as I enable dual view, I lose all sound in both Windows and Sage. I'd like to have the sound ONLY go out of my SPDIF connector on the motherboard or at least have it go out both the SPDIF and HDMI port. Currently, the sound works so long as I don't enable dualview with the HDMI in use but as soon as I do, no sound. I don't know if it "thinks" that I then want all the sound to go out the HDMI cable or what but I can't find any settings for the video card which even deal with sound and I don't see any setting anywhere else either. Going to continue to play with this but just curious if anybody else has already gone through this and solved it? Thanks! |

The sound over HDMI is just pass through so it doesn't have settings in the card as far as I know. And it might not support it anyway. I also use spdif for sound via an amp and hdmi to the tv. The first setting for me was in bios since I use the onboard sound card, set for spdif output. In the sound card utility I have to enable digital output. For video I use hdmi direct to the tv and dvi to a second monitor for when I want to do other things. I tried routing video through the amp but that auto detect nonsense in windows makes it unreliable. The tv even when off keeps windows happy. Your best bet might be a regular monitor and then whatever resolution works best.

Thanks for the suggestion! I do have two HDMI inputs on my TV so can use the extra one for this. I like to keep everything going to my receiver and then output from my receiver but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. LOL
The main problem I have to figure out is my audio going completely away when I plug in the HDMI cable. I have settings like yours and mine were already set like that so will just have to tinker a little more. Thanks! |
