Seamless transition on HD live TV

Hi,

SageTV V7 introduced the following :

38. Added seamless file transitions when watching live TV for Windows Application, Windows Client and HD Media Extenders. So when one show ends and the next begins; the transition is seamless.

Can someone confirm it is working for them on HD channels ?

Thank you.

Thank you,

bsung , my SD transitions are fine, I just struggle with HD transitions. Can you please tell me what you have in the sage.properties file for :

seeker/fast_mux_switch=xxxx

and what happens when you change it to true or false ?

Slight pause on some channels with HD100, smooth on all channels with HD200. I haven't tested but I think the problem for my HD100 is that I don't have the Delay to wait after tuning set to 4000 as recommended for the HD PVR, so when I switch from a 1080i to a 720p channel, the start of the file (the header) says it's a 1080i broadcast, but then the stream changes-and I can actually see it resyncing a la blue screen, not BSOD-to 720p. I think what happens is that the next show is actually reported as 720p, whereas the previous one was reported as 1080i. This works the other way around too and for 720p, 1080i, or 480p. Now these are just my thoughts and my setup and I haven't actually done any scientific experimentation or anything, just observations and "technical" conclusions. And, perhaps, the HD200 can better cope with it? Haven't tested smooth transition on the client yet.

Works perfect for me. haven't had any issues? Granted i only use OTA, but still out of my 25 er so channels, i have not noticed a glitch on any of them during show transition.

Are all 25 HD channels or non-HD channels ?

To get seamless SD transitions I need fast_mux_switch=true. Otherwise I get a short disruption.

However this setting causes HD transitions to freeze displaying "No Signal", and I have to return to the Guide to resume viewing.

If I set fast_mux_switch=false then HD transitions are better - similar to The Pause in V6, but I get the SD transition problem noted above.

Back to back recordings are not affected in any way, so I assume it's the V7 code which was introduced to eliminate The Pause which is at fault.

What tuner are you using? An officially/natively supported one or a network encoder? The only one of my tuners that it doesn't work for is the R5000 (I get a split-second "glitch"), but that's a network encoder. My HDHRs and HD PVR work fine.

I have no network encoders, my full kit list is in my Public Profile, the HD tuner is the Hauppauge Nova S2. Tuning doesn't seem to be the problem because back-to-back recordings don't have the gaps, perhaps it is something to do with the way V7 handles the file switch.

As my sig says , I have :

- Cinergy 2400iDT ( for DVB-T )
- Hauppauge NOVA-HD-S2 ( for DVB-S )

And I am getting the same as fac13 on both for HD channel show transitions.

Thanks for posting this Stanger. I was about ready to ask how is it with the HDHR and HD PVR. This feature is the primary reason I am considering upgrading.

Good luck so far here too

I have an HDHR and HDPVR with HD200 frontends, so far no glitches at all between show transitions in HD.

FYI

This was a defect due to European H264 DVB signal and it has been fixed by SageTV guys. I understand the fix will be part of the next beta release.

Nice work
