XBMC vs studio

I understand that themes are a new design (coat of paint) for a given UI, but they don't change the layout or behavior - you've got to use studio to do the latter. Now, where exactly does xbmc sit in that picture? From reading the xbmc post above, it sounds like xbmc skins go further than a simple theme, i.e. allow for a new layout, but that you would need studio to completely redo a UI, because xbmc skins don't cover all behavior you'd want to control. Is that right?

Sort of correct. Some XMBC components translate and Sage has done a mapping in Studio that helps that. Some objects are translated but not linked to the STV components. Some do not translate to any existing function in Sage. So an XMBC skin is actually more than a theme with some functionallity. But a Sage theme is just graphic elements that replace the stock elements and do not afftect the functions within Sage.
