Network searching just "goes away" sometimes?
Hello, I had this problem in V6 and it has been carried over to V7.
When I want to browse media files I have the normal options of browsing the local computer, the import media folders, and the recording folders. Sometimes I have the "network" option but the problem is that sometimes I don't? This holds true also for when going into setup and trying to browse to a network folder to set it up as an import folder... it won't show here either. My network is working on the computer and even working within Sage because one of my import folders for music is on a different computer and I can play that music fine... but it still won't show the "network" option to be able to setup an import folder or browse media files. I'm not sure what "fixes" this but sometimes it is there? Any ideas as to what could be causing Sage to randomly not give me the "network" option for importing media and browsing when I know it is there and running? Thanks! |

Also, I'm not running Sage as a service and since I had this problem in V6, I may not be asking the question in the correct forum. If that's the case, I appologize and feel free to move it. Thanks!

One thing that I did notice is that when trying to browse media files and the network option is NOT available, I can go into setup and attempt to modify my import media directories. When I click "add" I can get to the Network option here but when I try this I immediately get an error "Invalid directory" and it shows the current directory as smb:////
I'm not running SageTV as a service and am tyring to do this on my HTPC where my SageTV program is. Thanks for any possible ideas! |

We're putting a new version of the network browsing libraries into the next build which should hopefully resolve this problem.

Sorry, not up to date on when builds are releasing, but is the network improvement in V7.0.11.232?
I'm trying to add network directories and sage v7 isn't finding any. They're browsable via Win 7 "windows explorer" |

This issue has been around since the first betas of v6 AFAIK. Every 7.x beta has also carried the same issue.
I'll give one example of how I can reproduce it on my setup below. I'm running Sage as a service on a WinXP box that does nothing but run Sage. I have two network shares that should always be visible to that machine, both of them from a NAS box. If I shut down or restart the NAS without also taking down the Windows box, the network option will disappear from Sage. Restarting the Windows system after the NAS is running will bring the option to browse the network back. I suspect I may be able to achieve the same thing by stopping and restarting the service after mounting the shares manually, but I haven't tested that recently. My biggest concern here is that Windows itself doesn't seem to automount the shared volumes. If you look at Explorer's list of drives after restarting the NAS, the shared volumes will be listed as "disconnected" until you open them manually. A number of other apps installed on that machine that I run manually from time to time contain settings referencing files on those shares. Those apps are unable to access those files until I manually open the shares from explorer, causing them to mount. It might be necessary for Sage to put in something that tries to mount all mapped network drives itself.

But if Windows Explorer shows the drives as disconnected then it is a Windows issue, not Sage. Did you make sure to check the Reconnect at logon" check box if you are mapping them. Are you sure your NAS doesn't require the Guest account to have access to those shares?

I just added them to the Sage.properties file for now. Works fine.

As I said, the issue with my NAS may be an explorer one, but the option to browse the network should still be available in Sage, since the network itself is still present. The issue also predates the NAS on my network as well as predating the system that's currently running Sage.

I am also getting this issue with my 7.0.12 client (Win 7 X64) connected to my 7.0.12 WHS. When I go to 'Detailed setup' and try to 'Add a new directory' in 'Media Center Import Directories' - I do 'Up Directory' until I get to the top and then select 'Network' - it gives me a message saying 'Invalid Directory' and 'Current: smb:////'.
The odd thing about this is that I have previously (since beta 7 started) added in folders (outside of the storage pool) from my WHS. I can navigate to the folder I am trying to add via Windows Explorer. EDIT: As I was writing this I realised that having installed 7.0.12, I hadn't changed the Service logon to a non-local user for the new version. Having done this, I was able to specify the folder to add by specifically entering its name. However, selecting 'Network' still gives the message saying 'Invalid Directory' and 'Current: smb:////'. So there is still a problem that needs to be fixed but it is able to worked around.

I am having this problem too. I just built a new WHS box to test out Sage V7.0.12. The media I am trying import is stored on another share.
Do I need to change the service to logon as a non-local system account in WHS? And after that in what form do i 'specify' the folder name? I have tried \\server\share but it just asks if i want to create it. Edit: After changing the service to logon as an administrative account, the above form works fine. I am having this problem to I see it sometimes, most times I don't. I don't see my network media (not on my sagetv server). I have to boot the HD200 into media (non-server mode) to get to it.

Display a warning message?
I think another thing that would be useful for the SageTV program to do, would be to put up a warning message about access rights and a reminder to set the service logon user/password when this situation occurs - the program must know that access has been denied - it would probably save a lot of time and head scratching () when users have this issue.
