New TV gui

I do not like the default actions when 'clicking' the 'TV' menu.

It takes right to the Sage recordings ... which is very confusing.
I was expecting a menu that had LiveTV/Guide/Recordings etc

Took me about an hour to figure out that I need to hover my mouse to the rigiht of the menu, or to push the 'right' button on the remote.
I've always pressed enter at a menu, not the 'right' button. That may be a SageMC thing, as I have haven't used the native Sage GUI

Wouldn't pass the WAF factor in my house...

Suggestion on new gui

It's not exactly obvious that you need to hit the right arrow or key to expand the main menu options

How about have them expand automatically
-or-
Disable the jump to behavior when you click it and instead have that expand it (so for example, instead of going straight to recordings, have it show the tv submenu instead)

Some items on the Main Menu have default actions when you select them; others do not.

Menu items without a default action & only have a submenu, display a right arrow beside the item title.

Menu items with a default action plus have a submenu, display a right arrow with a marker next to it beside the item title.

Menu items without a submenu have no arrow/marker beside the item title.

This allows having submenus w/o having to traverse all the way down the menu levels if you simply want to select the default action on the top item.

It's understandable if its explained to someone, but it may not be intuitive to some users what the arrow and asterick mean. Maybe having some text at the bottom which says "Press right to see more options" or something...just a thought (although I like my original suggestion better)

SageTV has used left/right arrow input for a long time. A right arrow icon seemed like it would be obvious to press the right arrow.

The right arrow could just as easily mean "click this to go somewhere" or just be for looks ("hey this is a menu item")... it's not like there is some consensus across programs...

My opinion is that it should be:
-what can be done to make sagetv even easier to use
-more intuitive
-more obvious
-more "*" acceptance factor

Rather than "this is the way its always been done". After all, its getting a new interface so this is the time to talk about such things

Just my opinion...

Agreed. I've always used the "Enter" command to traverse the menus. It's the iPod navigation method (you don't press right to navigate the iPod menus, you click OK).... and it seems to me that people like the usability of the iPod.

Just my 2 cents...

While I can get used to it, I have to admit I don't find the menus that intuitive -- the difference between enter/select and right arrow, etc.

I find the back button operates inconsistently as well. Sometimes I can hit back, other times the left arrow, other times I have to select cancel...

I'd also like an easy way to delete a group of recordings. When I group by title I can find no obvious way to delete all of them. Selecting "clear" on the group certainly isn't the way.

Also just wanted to add that I am coming at this from the perspective of a longtime sagemc and beyondtv user...those seem easier to me...you just click on tv and there is everything laid out for you...if one of the goals of v7 is to address interface complaints, some insight could be taken from sagemc, beyondtv, and Windows media center. BTW the developers have been very active on the forums today..I'm very impressed with the responsiveness and answers

Are you using the default STV? This hasn't changed at all for the past several versions.

Simply select the group & choose "Delete all Recordings". Note that this dialog can be disabled & I don't believe it is on by default, so it may not be enabled on your system.

Or, simply use the Delete command while the group is highlighted.

I like the new option of hitting select to get to the default action. 99% of the time when I go to tv I want to see my recordings. If I don't want to see recordings I now have the option to hit right and do something else. That saves 1 click for 99% of my work flow which is a big win to me.

Looks like the delete command wasn't mapped on my remote... easy fix.

I agree with him. I wasn't expecting it to take me to the recorded tv menu. I have an MCE remote so I always get there with the "Recorded TV" button.

I would much prefer the default action for clicking TV would be how it was under SageMC with half the screen Recently recorded and half the screen Upcoming recordings.

I would always hit TV and see what was new on the HTPC for tonight.

Well, I wasn't crazy about the new gui until I reverted back to v6 for a bit testing something. SageMC felt old and clunky..which was unexpected! There are a few little things I'm not crazy about but I need to play more before I make any final decisions. So far I like what I see!

I am in absolute agreement with ma22xx on his one. Love the default action.

Perhaps an option buried in the detailed setup:
Default TV Action: Recordings, Watch Live TV, Program Guide, Recording Schedule, Schedule Recordings, TV Show Editorials
Default Videos Action: Titles, DVD/BD, Playlists, etc.

Give users the ability to configure it to a method they like.

I also love the default action. I wish that Online had a default action as well and would go to More Online Videos (since Google and You tube are accessible for there as well)

I'd like the option to select Default Action.
My pref is to be like Sage MC ... Enter takes you to the next level of the menu.
None of the chat re default this or that matters to my wife... or my son or ...
They just want to watch TV

I never used the default UI previously (always used SageMC), so I'm not sure if there's a change here. One thing that I like a lot in SageMC was how movies were handled as you can easily browse through movies, which is a direct submenu under TV. Is there anything like that in the default stv? Don't tell me that I can only get there via the category movies...

Just my opinion, it seems kind of counter-intuitive to see movies when you choose tv.
