I put my 3450 into the client and it works great for decoding vc-1 with dxva. However, sagetv refuses to play anything with vc-1. I had this problem with version 6, but when I got sagetv to use the mpc splitter the problem was resolved. I can't get sage to stop using the internal mpeg2 splitter. Removing the stream splitter as stated above fixes a few issues, but not with vc-1.
Any thoughts?

Sage's M2TS splitter doesn't expose WVC1 so the MPC-HC VC-1 filter won't work (neither with the WMV DMO). I'm not sure it's possible to replace it with the MPC-HC splitter, and even if it were that would produce undesirable results for other MPEG types in Sage (esp. live tv).

I wonder if we could request the vc-1 be usable with the sage splitter? I have quite a few vc-1 blu-rays that I used to be able to use with sage when they didn't support .m2ts files with the sage splitter in v6. I'm going to install sagetv v6 client on an extra pc to see if I can get it to work. This is the only file type I have trouble with (again).

Ask for WVC1 support from the M2TS splitter. At the very least you can use the WMV DMO, and when MPC-HC sorts out proper support for Intel graphics we can use that...

Any tips on how to get sage to use any form of vc-1 codec?

What do you have set as the preferred VC-1 decoder in the client properties?

ArcSoft Video Decoder. It is set that way in properties file and in your graph plugin. I can see in the log that sage is attempting to use it, but for some reason there is an additional video decoder. It has no info as to what decoder, but just calls it video decoder.

np. I wish it were easier to get this stuff working, IMO it's a serious barrier to adoption - hopefully it will get better in future revs.

Agreed. I just wonder why vc-1 is such a pain and h.264 works perfectly. I guess the hd-pvr had a lot to do with that.

VC-1 in general is a PITA, many other players/front ends/decoders have issues with VC-1. Just wish everyone would move to h264 already...

The thing that gets me, it that it's MS's technology. They could have included a HWA VC-1 decoder in 7 the same way they did w/ AVC and this would all just work. |

MS DOES include a VC-1 decoder with windows. I think the problem is the splitter sage is using is not exposing the video's in a way that matches it up with that decoder.

The MS VC-1 decoder is problematic though. For example, try playing a VC-1 m2ts file in WMP/W7MC and you will get audio but no sound.

I'm guessing you mean video and no sound, Sound, however, is completely unrelated to the VC-1 decoder.

Here is a good writeup:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...4#post16951614 It is actually the splitter that needs to be reassigned (for example using Gabest) - So you have to disable Media Foundation and use the DirectShow pipeline instead in WMP12/7MC, with proper filters

VC-1 can be exposed as WVC1 which is what most free/OSS decoders do to ensure maximum compatibility. The WMV DMO does not support hardware acceleration (HWA), so while it "works" in this context (doing some bit flipping) - the operation is suboptimal on many platforms. |

I don't have any VC-1 streams to check it with, but i have wrapped some WVC1 streams into both m2ts and mkv containers. Sage plays back the MKV version fine, but craps out on the m2ts file. So it seems the demux DOES expose it from mkv files, but has problems from m2ts. Have any of you who DO have these files tried putting it into an MKV container and see if sage can swallow it?
