I don't want to burst your bubble but with the new animation system layers are no longer used. It is a good thing though trust me I always hated those stupid layers. Now you simply code in order you want them on screen or use z offsets.

I just want to chime in and say that I think the new UI looks great, and I can't wait to see it in action. The "Guide" screen does resemble the stock v6 guide in a way and I don;t think that's a compliment. However, without having used the thing I can't say for sure how much I will or won;t like it. BUT!, the other screen shots posted look absolutely beautiful. What I find odd is that some people criticize the new UI, yet i find it looks very XBMCish. And a lot of folks always posted hwo they wish the SageTV ui was more like Windows Media Center or XBMC...

Some people will just always complain no matter what you give them it is never enough...

IMHO sage is ahead of the competition as far as well rounded htpc platforms.

Thanks for the screenshot bcjenkins.

My first impression is that it's a tad awful but not too bad. Certainly a big improvement over the previous version.

I was hoping for this as well. As someone who is getting to the point that my wife and I are considering having children, it would have been nice. But then again we are just considering and it will be years before we have a child that is watching tv regularly so by then who knows what Sage will do!

Anyone know if the new UI is "set". Meaning, can we rearrange items or change it from a vertical menu-style to something else? Or do we have to use a skin to do that?

Stvi or skin. You can change some of it to some extent but not much by default.

For those that are using the current beta - how stable is it? Would you use Sage 7 as your main system today, even if you have Wife and Kids Acceptance Factor to deal with?

Brent's post says that metadata is embedded in the file for recorded TV files rather than being stored in wiz.bin. Does this mean that the files types have changed from .mpg and .ts files?

Brent responded to that very comment on his Blog comments section. Essentially what was said is that it's similar to what BeyondTV did, and that the meta-data is in the MPG or TS container.

My question is more along the lines of how the import occurs. Does SageTV V7 import from the wiz.bin and amend the individual files?

I'm curious, what should it be like? Maybe I'm not imaginative, but I'm not sure how else you'd do an EPG, at least not in any significantly different way.

What do you mean? I think the answer is nothing significant is changed.

It is my main system.

Sage still uses the wiz.bin for everything. But they've added storing metadata to the file directly. Think of it as a backup. And they're still mpg or ts, they're just using some extra features of those files to stuff metadata in.

Yes for existing files I believe that is how it works.

and it is pretty stable I have been running on my WHS for the past 3 builds with no hiccups related to pvr and dvr functions at all.

Nope. It is released "today"....no one knows when that exactly will be, but they are west coasters, so it is still 6:00 AM there.

You can subscribe to this thread: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11809

As soon as the beta is made public, they will put an update and it will send you an email to tell you where to download it.

So for people looking to test before they roll to production, can I just back up my SageTV directory, then install v7, then move directories back and forth to switch from v6 to v7? How would the HD200's handle that?

I have a dual boot for such scenarios as well, but the hd200's are still in question.

I use an xml importer that creates xml from 2 different sources, and feeds sageTV using a line-up.

So if the EPG still works in the same way, I am happy.

Cheers
