One thing I was hoping for, which was not mentioned in the announcement is suport for multiple users: kids, family, person 1, person 2, visitor mode. Still totally awesome.

I kept reading all the posts wondering if I was the only one looking for this. That certainly would have been a great upgrade.

Personally I won't have a chance to try it for about 10 days. By then they will probably have the first public update ready. And I am more than happy to pay the upgrade fee. This is for something we use pretty much every day.

Hmm, so if I pay for this upgrade, does that mean that if I ever have to reinstall, I'll now have to enter three separate codes to get it working?

Right now, to get v6 reinstalled, which I've had to do a few times, I have to enter my original code, then I have to exit the program and restart it and enter my upgrade code. So is this version going to require me to do that a 3rd time?

I really hope I get a code such that is all I have to enter. Just the one, nothing more.

I might have to. My cold has been getting worse all day. I wonder if we can put this off until I feel better...

Andy

I live in australia... I understand it is about 8pm US time at the moment...

If you guys release this any later than, say, 2-4am your time tomorrow I will have to wait another DAY and another 8 hours at work until I have a chance to play with v7... Please please please tell me you're going to release this around midnight - 4am tomorrow and not at some normal hour like 8am or noon, which will kill me from all the anticipation!!!

V7 comes with the new UI as default but the user can still select the "old" sagetv3.xml stv or stvs based on the old UI. Although I don't use SageMC, I think it can still be used but will not take advantage of the new UI elements.

After the public release of the beta today, the V7 specific customisations will be marked clearly in the forum. Most of the customisations/addins based on the the V6 UI will not work with the sagetv7.xml but can work with the sagetv3.xml although the user loses the updated look 'n feel.

SageMC still works fine. However, you will probably find yourself switching to the default UI if you give it a chance. Most of us SageMC guys in the private beta pulled the plug on MC and are using the V7 UI.

Does the new UI support .edl files out of the box? Or will we need a plugin?

There's a plugin for that.

Just a rough guess, but I'd bet a plugin would be needed.. that said, enough devs have been testing it, that I'd hope said plugin was already developed...

EDIT: See.. told ya so...

I'm most excited about this plugin manager if I'm correctly understanding how it will work. Although I've played around with some plugins I've always felt a bit overwhelmed when reading through the customization threads. If plugins are easier in v7 though, maybe I can have something as cool as that video that Plucky posted. Really impressive stuff.

People on various threads have talked about the need for a simple plug-and-play setup for the computer novice. v7 doesn't seem to do much for the novice (which probably isn't the right market for Sage anyway) but may help people like me take better advantage of some of the other cool stuff that I've been missing. So if server on a stick would have taken 1's (1 being a novice and 10 being an expert) to 4s, this seems to take 4's to 7's.

Talking

I's amazing that only a few people in this thread have appreciated that the dreaded pause in live tv will soon be gone Great work guys @ SageTV!!

I, for one, think that this is more than enough to upgrade to the next version.

The only downside to this new version is the amount of time I have to set aside to rewrite my plugins - but now I'm glad I used a layered architecture and kept the UI layer as thin as possible

I can't wait to try this new baby out!

So is this new interface the 3D one that was mentioned below or was that dropped?

The 3D UI isn't so much apparent in the default UI but the background coding which Sage have provided is pretty amazing......basically anything XBMC, MediaPortal etc can do we can now do, it'll just take a little time for dev's to get the 3D stuff out.

Cheers

Ben

Hey there alpha testers,

I know that this is probably a big ask but could someone with access to v7x please post a screenshot of the tv/video player osd display. It's the ugliest, most embarrasing, most un-tenable part of the current 6.x stock interface. Please assuage my fears.

Mick.
