Give me a "Pass-Through" mode.
I want to be able to watch movies on demand and have full control of my cable boxes from my extenders. Here is what I would like to see:
For every tuner that uses an IR blaster to change channels provide a "Pass-Through" mode option. The extenders would just pass through all IR codes it receives to the IR blaster in this mode. SageTV would generate a recording in this mode called, perhaps, PassThrough_05-15-2010_20:00_HDPVR. The cable company's remote, or for example, a harmony remote could be used in this mode. It would act as if the remote was directly controlling the set top box. The pause/play/ff/fr keys on the remote would navigate the newly generated recording. On exiting the pass-through mode there would be an option to delete the recording, and a warning the recording would end. I want to use the full functionality of the cable box at times. Ready-Sage-Go!

Not sure I understood the concept, but seems to me that if you have a Harmony remote you can already create an activity to control the proper combination of HD200/TV/Cable box as needed.
I know I can control my dish box from wherever in the house if I feel like it (very rarely do I need to though). Eric |

How do you do that with a Harmony remote? What model of the Harmony are you using?

As far as I know, the current IR code files only contain the digits 0-9 and enter. So they would need to get all the other commands for all possible cable/satellite boxes, generate the resulting code for all possible IR devices, and somehow be able to determine that the Pause should be sent to the cable box and not act as a pause on the recording buffer... Probably easier for you to get a RF remote or some IR extender...

Considering Sage doesn't include IR files for more than one STB, I don't think this would be the limiting factor. There is no limit to the commands that can be in the IR file, the others would just have to be learned.

Right, I was thinking of BTV which supplies more built-in codes.

But you are limited as to the codes you can send to the Dish Receivers while in the SageTV environment. What I would like to be able to do is remain in the Sage environment and have the option for all of the codes I send to an extender sent directly to the IR blaster on the cable box. My cable boxes are on the opposite side of the house from most of my extenders. I know I could do this with an RF remote but it would be nice to do it with my existing IR remotes (I use harmony 550's and an 880) and a Sage software solution.

I'd like to use another STB on my living room terminal and have it available as a network encoder, but be allocate it on the fly to 'on demand' mode. I could then choose to switch my TV input to the STB directly and Sage wouldn't take it over unless I told Sage I was done with it.

There's an App for that!
The pass through mode. I've got it...well kind of. I purchased the iphone Slingplayer mobile app. While playing with it I was watching SageTV also. As I navigated the menus on the Slingplayer app I was seeing its effects on what I was watching on SageTV. It occured to me this is a "pass through mode". As the Slingplayer app can act just like the cable company's remote all the features available on the remote are reflected on SageTV. For example, while watching SagetV, I can tune to a on demand channel select a movie and have the selection play via Sage. I can then have Sage take control via my extender's remote to have Sage record the show. If it's a movie I can adjust the recording stop time to accommodate the movies length. Kind of a Rube Goldberg solution, but it works!

It is not a "passthrough" mode though, but it does allow you to have an "OnScreen Remote" when watching Live TV. You choose the buttons (those of the STB remote) you want to see on this onscreen remote. This way: it works everywhere, extender, placeshifter, if you use a mouse or a remote. Regards, Stéphane. |

Stephan, That sounds like what I want to do. Do you plan on having this in the list of available plug-in's for SageTV Ver 7.xx?
