HD100 acting funny

I recently purchased an HD200 and moved the HD100 to the living room. It worked great for the first few days and the kids watched several movies on it. However, last night when I went to use it, it was on and seemed to be live but the TV just showed a black screen. That had happened a few times before and so I flipped the switch to power cycle.

After the power cycle, it came up, tried to auto-connect, did it's thing where it goes black then comes back and says it's loading, then it goes black again, and then... nothing. The green active light goes out and it never comes back.

That's all I can get it to do now.

The only thing I can think of is I recently replaced the Linksys gigabit switch it was connected to with a DELL PowerConnect switch (that is technically a LOT better).

Any ideas?

Does it have bulging capacitors? Perhaps they are about to fail.

I thought about that but, from what I've read, the bulging caps thing has some pretty specific symptoms that don't match with what I'm seeing. I haven't found another thread with my exact symptoms.

I guess I'm going to log a support ticket cause I've tried everything I can think of to get to boot past the trying to connect to the server stage.

I'm moved it back to it's original location (the place where the HD200 is working great) and it still did the same thing so I don't think it's network related.

When you do determine what is wrong, please post and let us know. I just had a HD100 completely stop working this week. It appears to have bad capacitors since the red power LED is slowly blinking. However, while reading your post, I remember this HD100 required power cycling every few days to get it to work. When it stopped working, it would just present a black screen when it came out of standby and was otherwise non-responsive.

So, like sic00048, I expect you to find the capacitors are going bad. If the power rails are noisy but near the properly levels in a digital system (which could happen with caps that are failing, but not completely bad), the system can behave in very strange ways.

Sounds like your settings are screwed. You could try trashing the properties file (found in your SageTV folder under clients listed by MAC address). See if that fixes your problem. Oh and you will need to stop Sage before you remove the properties file.

Also, some HD100's started acting funny before eventually failing. It may yet be the power supply. It's worth checking and only takes five minutes.
