TWO Hauppauge HD-PVRs

I am thinking of installing 2 HD-PVR boxes with 2 satellite receivers. Both receivers are the same which use the same IR remotes. Will sage TV change the channel for one receiver while leaving the other one alone? I guess this can happen if the IR comes from only one PVR IR blaster to one receiver and the other PVR will remain quiet. Will this work assuming I can isolate the IR blaster/receiver combination from one another?

Thanks

You'll need some way to control the channel changing on the STBs.

There are two methods of doing this. One is to have a IR blaster for each box. You could use the built in Hauppauge IR blaster for one, but not both. Most users here would recommend the USB-UIRT. It actually has three different IR zones, so you can use it with three identical STBs without problems.

The 2nd option would be to see if your existing STBs can have the IR device code changed to something other than the default setting. Doing this makes it respond to a different set of IR codes. This allows you to have more than one STB hooked up to the same blaster (even the Hauppauge blaster). Each box would only respond to it's specific device code while ignoring the other STBs device codes.

I would buy one at a time. While I do not quite yet regret the purchase, my HDPVR has never been remotely stable. At best I get about a week and a half without a freeze. This is across two sage servers, completely different hardware, I have RMA'd and gotten a replacement, used old/new drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled sage, etc, etc. Just know that you are signing up for something that requires voodoo to work properly, and that's with one HDPVR

I have two STB's set to two different remote codes. USB UIRT sends both codes out two emitters. 100% solid.

Took some work to get the HDPVR's solid, but it can be done.

The HD-PVR can be made pretty stable. As mentioned, there is a list of things, including using the 1.0.5.301 HD-PVR driver, not using the HD-PVR IR blaster, covering up the HD-PVR IR window, opening the top of the HD-PVR for better ventillation, installing a fan in the HD-PVR, and using a separate USB card just for the HD-PVR. You can then monitor the HD-PVR with SageAlert and trigger an automatic reset upon lockups with Growl.

After doing all the things, except for the fan and automatic reset with Growl, my HD-PVR is fairly reliable. Although I may still add those two items. The last "Hault detected" error was on April 17th, in about one month's operation since the last changes of adding the separate USB card and removing the HD-PVR top cover. The HD-PVR missed one recording, but recorded other programming after the failed event. I used to power cycle the HD-PVR at least once a week before all the changes.

I think you are best off to forget using the built-in Hauppauge IR blaster and just order a USB-UIRT in addition to your HD-PVR units. Since the HD-PVR reliability is questionable without going through extra steps, deploying one HD-PVR at a time is probably a very good idea. I know there is at least one person on the forum who runs four HD-PVRs.

USB UIRT or MCE IR Blaster

Ok so using the HD-PVR IR does not seem like its the best thing to do. I do have USB-UIRT and there are 2 places where I can hook up an IR blaster but I how can you set the zone for one port versus the other port?

I know MCE Blaster has 2 ports and you can set it to use one port or the other with DVB Link on an MCE but I want to know if anyone has tried this with SAge TV?

You set the zones in the IR file. Here's an example file for zone 2.

Code:
ComcastDTA_Zone2 0 0 0 500 3000 Enter
RepeatCount 2

The code "z2" goes right in front of the "0000" code for each digit. For zone 1 use "z1" instead. For the main USB-UIRT box, don't use a zone code in front of the "0000" code.
