SageTV with networked storage

I am the owner of a Linksys WRT610n wireless router. I bought this for a primary use of transmitting HD TV wirelessly to another room. That appears to work. Another benefit of this router is the ability to network storage. I have hooked up a USB drive to this router and all PCs are capable of seeing it. I am also capable of seeing it in sage TV. When I choose it as a media center import directory (so I can import movies I have converted from DVD to XVid), I am unable to make use of this. It sees the networked shared location, but is unable to see the files under that location. Does anyone have a suggested fix I might try, or is this a not going to ever work? I rather keep that drive networked storage since I am using it to hold things like drivers and software that can be installed on all of my computers/

Any suggestions?

If you're running Sage as a service, you must configure the service to log in as a user with network access privileges. The default service login does not have such privileges (that's why it's called LocalSystem). You must also use UNC paths (\\server\share) instead of mapped drive letters, since services cannot access mapped drives.

That said, I think you're asking for trouble by using a wireless LAN for both your file server and your SageTV clients. Network file access is going to compete for bandwidth with video streaming, and the result is most likely going to be stuttering and unwatchable video. In your shoes I would think seriously about a separate NAS device with a wired LAN connection, and reserve the wireless for video, or even better, wired connections to your SageTV clients.

Remmy - I would also respectfully suggest, unless you just plain cannot for code or construction reasons, using wired Ethernet or some sort of second N network with point-to-point for either your clients or your server.

I think GK is correct, although I certainly applaud you for getting N to work consistently and smoothly. That alone should about qualify you for an honorary MIT doctorate.

Personally, I use GbE on 5e cabling in my house for all data needs except casual wireless laptop surfing. I have an HD200, a Server, and 2 Clients and they are faultless where networking is concerned.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try running making the required service changes. I hope that does the trick.
I do think I should clarify for you all. The network storage is wired via gigabit to my sage TV server. This is not going to be extended storage for TV recorded. This storage is going to be only for a shared software location and to have access to standard DVDs converted to XVID as well as listening to MP3s. (I have another wired PC in a room around the corner) I also note another thing. HD TV wirlessly over dual band N does work. I know it sounds unbelievable....but it's true! Its pretty awsome. I record TV in the living room and watch wirelessly in a room down the hall. Since the only PCs that I ever use wirelessly are my work laptop and the PC dedicated to watching HDTV in the bedroom, bandwidth doesnt appear to be a problem. I admit it isnt for the faint of heart, and if you dont have the MIT degree, I dont suggest it I do get some minor caching every once in a while (maybe with an hour or two of watching) which recovers as soon as it started...much like digital TV does from the cable company every blue moon

FYI, thank you again for the advice on on using the user name and password on the service. Kind of a pain in the neck because I had to set up the username and password on the NAS and then set up the same username and password on the windows 7 box...and then go into the registry and force an autologin so if I get a powerfailure my pc will recover right away and not get stuck on the login prompt. but it now works and I can watch my DVD collection from any of my Sage PCs THANK YOU!
