SGraphRecorder as a Service

Did a quick search and couldn't find anyone that had mentioned doing this...

Anyone tried using the utility from Microsoft that lets you turn any exe into a service? I am wondering if that would work with SGraphRecorder in order to set it as a dependency of the SageTV service so that Sgraphrecorder always starts first at boot prior to SageTV without having to use a batch file.

If not, where do you put the batch file so that it runs at boot without a user logging in?

I am using Windows Home Server and attempting to setup a STB tuning/capturing via Firewire.

Thoughts?

Don't use WHS, but in most windows OS a batch file will run at boot from the "Startup" folder.

Probably under "All Users/Startup" folder then?

Also, I am having a weird issue if anyone has experience with firewire, that I can successfully get the GraphEdit tool to make a TS stream which opens in VLC just fine, but when I try accessing the stream through SageTV and using SGraphRecorder, I get nothing. The .mpgbuf file stays at 0KB for file size in the sage recording directory. Not sure where to go with that short of just dropping the money to buy the HD-PVR...

The whole purpose of a server is so that it is an unattended operating computer. Putting an application in the startup folder will not run unless you log into the computer. A service will run even if you don't log in. If the server, gets restarted due to power outage, etc., who will be there to login? There are ways of setting up an autologon but I would not want to do that on my server. When a user logs in, it is using system resources. I always logout of my WHS when I am done. Just my 2c.
