NO AUDIO - SGraphRecorder, MPEG PS files, and 3.0.11
Ok.... I have seen other people post about this problem in the insanely-long IEEE firewire thread.. but I wanted to start a new thread that deals specifically with THIS problem:
PS files recorded using SGraphRecorder and the widely-accepted TS-to-PS graph will have no audio when played in SageTV 3.0.11. These same PS files play just fine when loaded in media player. If you have this problem, please: 1) Respond to this thread. 2) FILE A BUG REPORT PLEASE. Thank you. Last edited by dvsing; 09-28-2005 at 12:52 PM. |

Not having the issue, but since you had to bump, have you tried different audio codecs?

So, this was all working just fine before with v2.0. I used to use the Sonic audio and video decoders, but I switched to the NVIDIA PureVideo audio and video decoders. These codecs are used by windows media player to correctly play back my HDTV MPEG PS files... however these same files play back with no audio in sage. This is clearly an issue with how Sage is building the playback graph in my opinion. It probably has to do with some of the changes that they built into Sage to handle TS MPEG files and AC3 audio streams, but somewhere in there it caused HDTV MPEG PS audio playback to break.

There is an issue where the Nvidia audio codecs won't work with an analog output. Someone mentioned it in another thread, and indicated there was something on Nvidia's site about it.

Again, let me restate:
Windows Media Player can play back these files perfectly and if you right-click on the file in the playlist and go to Properties, it will show you that it is, indeed, using the NVIDIA Audio and Video codecs to play back the file. The problem is not the codecs. Also, for what it's worth, I'm using SPDIF out on one system, and regular audio out on another. Neither work through Sage. Both work through Windows Media Player. |

I agree with you completely. I've already tried using several different audio and video decoders in Sage. They all work fine for regular sage recordings and imported media files, and they all have no audio when playing hdtv mpeg ps files... this is the case wether the files are recognized as "sage recordings" or imported media.
I'm not the only one with this problem. I've seen several posts at the tail-end of the IEEE1149.1 mega-thread in the Hardware Support forum about this recently. My intention of this post was to get together the group of people who are having this problem. -Dan |

The nvidia site states that there are known problems with the latest 'Pure Video' decoders and 3rd party applications. There is a warning on their site that they may not play nice with 3rd Party applications and are only guaranteed to work with WMP and Windows MCE. They 'may' work with 3rd Party applications. But nvidia acknowledged they are working the problem. Don't blame Sage. If Sage codes to a defined standard in the community and then nvidia ignores it in a new release that's not Sage's fault. If you roll back to 1.00.62 there was no warning from nvidia and the decoders worked just fine.

Okay.. I'm trying to be as clear as possible here. Let me try again =)
HDTV MPEG PS files will playback on Sage with the "no audio" problem REGARDLESS of what decoder is used. I believe this is because they have AC3 audio and it is being misprocessed by Sage. -Dan |

oops...i missed that..thought we were still talking nvidia....that's what i get for reading and scrolling at the same time
i would test this and submit for you but with the latest nvidia versions i can no longer built the TS to PS graph without bluescreening my pc , this does sound like a bug....see if you can submit a sample file to sage also so they have something to work with, post a 1 minute clip on a web page and include the link in the bug submission so they have something to debug against

I have already submitted a test clip and bug report to Sage... just haven't really got any reply on it and I'm wondering if it's because I'm the only one complaining about it. I've heard others in the forums here speak of the same issue.

I have posted about a similar issue with TS files and got no response. Some files playback fine, some with no audio. Funny thing is that I can tune to an HD channel, get no sound. I can tune another channel and then tune back to the original and sound is there. I thought that sage was not doing anything to the TS files it records but maybe it is since the file are apparently handling the audio different. I have tried all the decoder and render combinations I can think of. I will be submitting a bug at this point since I see that others have the same, or similar, problem.

it's not the decoder's and renderer's, the issues are in the Sage Source Filter/Demux somewhere when it comes to TS recordings
having just introduced TS support they are still working out the bugs in it, try your TS files in another piece of software, VLC is a good one to test with it has great built in TS support, that way you can figure out if it's the recording that is the problem or the playback that is at issue

Well, I just tried out VLC and I do not get sound on any sage recorded TS files (Even the ones that play fine in Sage). I have tried switching audio tracks where possible, but no luck.

I had the best luck playing SageTV created TS files in PowerDVD. They have a trial version.

Goodspike,
That certainly worked so I can use Cyberlink if the Sage does not work by itself. It also shows that the problem is with the sage playback and not with the files. One question, with Cyberlink there does not seem to be a skip forward, and at most a 2x shuffle. Is there a way to skip commericals more quickly? Hot Key maybe? |

I posted an article on how to fix this (no audio on PS HDTV revordings - no idea on the TS, but OP was for PS). It involves copying some files from version 3.0.5. Totally works. Search for a post by me made like 5 or 6 days ago.
