Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm not having any luck finding an "autodelete" setting and the manual that I can find only goes to 43 pages. I'm running sage with the SageMCE plugin/skin if that makes any differnce.

In the series settings window, when I set the Keep Up to: setting to a number of episodes, the oldest file gets wiped out and the new one records... I'd prefer to just not record until something is deleted.

I can't help with the autodelete request, but I can tell you that the manual available for download is 287 pages long. It's even linked in Opus' signature in the post you quoted from.

The other option you need to use in conjunction with "Keep Up To:" is "Keep:".

There are 2 options under keep:
- Until space is needed
- Until I delete

Set the Keep options to "Until I delete". Then it will hold only the number of recordings that you specified in the Keep Up To options. The only time Sage will add a recording is when you physically delete one of the recordings to make space for your limit.

If you leave Keep as "Until space is needed" then Sage will delete the oldest recording and append the most recent one, so you'll have the most recent in the series. I use this option for news. I only care about current days news. I set Keep Up to = 1 and Keep as "Until space is needed". This way Sage will autodelete yesterdays news and replace it with todays news.

On the other hand my wife watches Sex in the City, so rather than allowing Sage to record hundreds of these episodes, or having Sage constantly replace the recordings every time they air a re-run, I set Keep as "Until I delete" and Keep up to = 15. That way the there is only at most 15 episodes saved and more won't be recorded until she watches and deletes some of them.

I don't think it will re-record any episode it already has unless the EPG data is bad. I have had problems with something like Tom&Jerry where there is not a decent description and it is on 4 times a day. They will record over and over if I don't set a limit. It really sucks.

If they have decent descriptions I will use "Until space is needed" but otherwise "Until I delete it" is used. The kids learned pretty quick to delete or they would not get anything new.

It does seem like I have had issues where I had to delete everything before it would work right.

It's not that Sage re-records any of the shows, it's that there's many seasons of episodes and they run constantly. Rather than allowing Sage to record every episode as they come up (not the watched ones) I limit it to 15. That way she has a good pool to choose from and it prevents me from getting scheduling conflicts and all her shows eating up extraneous gigs.
