GMA 950 vs. Nvidia ION Graphics

I've searched but can't find any discussion. What's the practical differences between GMA 950 graphics and the nvidia ion platform's graphics?

TIA

Short: GMA950 is crap.

Long: From an HTPC standpoint, the GMA950 only has hardware decoding of MPEG2 and not h.264. The Nvidia Ion allows for hardware h.264 decoding as well as MPEG2. Further, the Nvidia Ion platform (Nvidia 9300 video chipset) also allows for entry level gaming and many other advantages.

If you are thinking of some kind of Atom system for video playback than Ion is the way to go. There is soon to be a whole bunch of low power Nettop PCs coming out based on the new Atom cpus but many still lack decent video. Some are adding special chips for h.264 playback but I would still look for something with ATI or nVidia graphics.

Gotcha. The h.264 in hardware is all the difference in the world. Thanks, guys, for the info.
