SageTV Software requirements for Windows Home Server
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and still trying to find my way around the SageTV software, hence my first post. I have been running Windows Home Server for a couple of years and have ripped most of my DVD collection to it, and use Twonky Server WHS Add-In to stream the content directly to my Sony Bravia TV which is DNLA compliant. This works really well. I now want to combine a TV tuner in the WHS box to record OTA TV programmes and eventually FreeSAT HD content from the BBC and ITV (I'm in the UK). Which of the SageTV software offerings do I need (if any) to record TV programmes in MPEG format to the TV share on the server? I have a Hauppage PVR 350 TV tuner which I would like to experiment with and then upgrade to a Satellite card if this is sucessful. I assume that I will need to access the server to set up recording schedule (via WHS Connector for the SageTV add-in? or via a Sage Client?) and that I will have to subscribe to TVTV in the UK for the programme listings. What I dont think I need is another media server/streamer on the WHS as I assume Twonky will monitor the Recorded TV share and stream the TV content. I believe there are a number of WHS/SageTV users on this forum and would really appreciate some tips/guidance on getting this working. As an aside I also use MyMovies for tagging the ripped DVDs and providing cover art, but currently I cannot get this to display on my Sony Bravia TV. I assume this is a limitation of the built in DNLA firmware. Will SageTV resolve this proplem or will only the used of a meadia receiver like Popcorn Hour or SageTV HD theater open up all this functinality like MovieWall etc. Sorry for the Newbie questions but I suppose we all have to start somewhere ![]() regards Fozzie |

SageTV will work just fine on the WHS system. I would advise against trying to use Twonky or whatnot to stream to the tv, as it would be a horrible user interface for browsing recordings. Sage's recording filenames are not really well formated for direct user interaction. You best bet would be to actually use a real sage client interface on the TV. This could be either a PC running SageTV Client, or, ideally, the HD Theater (also called HD-200). There is a great bundle deal including the HD-200 and the SageTV Server software here.
