Question SageTV for Window Home Server requirements

I am setting up a new Windows Home Server and was also planning to setup a server for recording/serving TV, photos, music, etc. I was excited to find out that SageTV now has a version for Windows Home Server. So now my question is for using that combination, what are the recommended system requirements to get smooth video, etc. I have a home network with both wired and wireless computers (6) and would like to be able to access recorded and live TV from any of those systems. I would also like to be able to connect some TVs to the network as well.

I would appreciate any feedback. I need to know the system requirements as well as what products I need to order from SageTV. I have never used any of these products before. Thanks.

What I would do is look around and make a list of hardware you like then go post it on SageTV Hardware forum.

And you may get some replies with suggestion or recommendations since we would a better idea how much your looking to spend on hardware based on your selection and maybe save you cost in the long run.

You might want add if your going to do only SDTV or HDTV or both etc and what do you expect from it like commerial skipping etc.

I want to record from digital cable and OTA HD...

I don't really know all that I want to do since I don't have experience with the SageTV products. I do know that I want to record shows and watch live TV. I want to be able to rip DVDs and create a library to be shared on my home network along with everything else (recorded shows, photos, etc.). I have 6 computers on a network that are either wired or wireless.

The server is a system that I had around that has Pentium 4 2.4GHz, with 512MB of RAM and 2 500GB SATA drives that I added with a 10/100 ethernet card.

I need to know if this hardware will suffice running both Windows Home Server and SageTV. On the software side, I need to know all the products that I should be planning to order. I'd appreciate the help.

I'm planning on a similar setup with my old P4 2.8. For SD it would probably work fine, for HD to your computers or an HD extender you would probably still be OK. If you want to do HD content on SD extenders or via placeshifter you'll probably run into problems with the CPU.

If you look around the biggest strain Sage puts on a computer is when transcoding content into other resolutions/formats, second would probably be HD playback (not that your server will have to do this), and third probably commercial skip processing.

So the question is what mix of SD and HD do you plan on having?
