HD100 and HD200 DVD stutter problems
Hey folks,
First, I have to say I've really tried to track this down searching the forums, playing with my setup, etc with no luck. So apologies if this has been asked/answered already. When I play certain ripped DVDs from either my HD100 or 200, I get .5-1sec little skips every now and then on certain movies. Why some and not others? I have no idea. The boxes are on wired ethernet. If I watch the movies directly on the video-out from my server, there is no skipping, so I imagine the problem is not with the file itself. Thanks in advance for any suggestions Mike |

We would need to know a lot more about your setup, including how the extender is networked, etc.
It could be as simple as a network traffic spike from some other device. |

I assume the pauses are not at the same place in the file every time. What happens if you rewind right after a glitch? Does it studder again in the same spot?
If not, then I would also chalk it up to a network issue. Are you running 10/100 or 10/100/1000? Have you checked your network activity levels at the point of the studdering?

Good question about where the spikes occur. I will check tonight, though my inclination is to say in the same spot (again, not when played locally off the server). I will also let you know if they occur in different places on the HD100 vs. the 200.
The network is 10/100 which hasnt been an issue with other HD streaming. I can also tell you that while I haven't specifically monitored the network, there is zero other activity on the network while watching the DVD. It's just the server and my HD200, for example. Good suggestions to start narrowing things down though. I'll report back w/ more detail. |

My guess would be either how you are ripping the DVD's (what program are you using) or it is the network. The program used for ripping a dvd can make a world of difference. Many people have complained about poor play back on their HD100/HD200's and after switching software for ripping, they worked just fine (your server has a lot of software tricks it can do and often times can handle poorly ripped DVD's better than a media player). I use DVDFAB with no issues.

I think the ripping is to blame. Funny how some DVDs ripped fine though.
Instead of testing the network, I thought an easier solution was to copy the files to a usb drive and just play them directly off the HD200. Stutter. I'll have to test a few other programs (incl DVDFAB). I've used Clone DVD w/ AnyDVD and copying to DVDs worked fine. Ripping to a drive clearly has some issues. M |

DVDFAB has worked best for me.
