DVD playback not working in HD200 - works fine with HD100

I have a HD100 and an HD200 with a Vista based SageTV server. I have a Daemontools mounted ISO mounted on the SageTV server. Server software is the 6.5 beta.

HD100 plays it fine. HD200 shows a black screen. The HD200 does act sort like it is playing the file since if I stop and hit play again it asks me to resume, but the image is black.

Thoughts?

Did you update the firmware on your HD200 after you recieved it? If not; try that first. If that doesn't fix it; please submit a bug report: http://sagetv.com/bugs.html

Thanks. I did an update, but will check to make sure I'm on the latest. I have a second hd200 I haven't broken out of the box that I will check as well.

Edit: was on 20081201. Moved to 20081212. Same problem.

I have the playback set to native and on the hd100, it changes to 480i. On the hd200, it stops outputting a signal until I press stop.

You can also try the beta firmware by typing 'beta' on your remote when you're on the System Update screen. There's additional issues fixed in that one as well.

I moved to the 1217 firmware but that doesn't help.

I did determine the issue - if native output resolution is on, the DVD does not playback. Confirmed by toggling it and attempting playback. Native resolution is a very nice to have if you're running the HD200 thru a decent scaler.

Oddly, I can set native output resolution on one hd200 extender, but do not have the menu in the other hd200 extender. Maybe there is some "advanced menu" setting that I need to flip to see the option.

Native Output Resolution switching will only show up if there's more than one resolution enabled on the device. Otherwise there's nothing to switch between.

Ah, so it could be that I need to enable 480i for it to show the native output resolution.

If native is on, I play a DVD and 480i isn't a legal config, then it might black screen. That would be good news.

That's what it was. If I enabled 480i outside the Sage interface (The Settings menu when you first boot up), DVD's playback. The HD100 either is smarter about this or I was just lucky on the HD100.
