DVD file playback on PC client vs. MVP
I have some DVDs (video_ts, etc) copied to a hard drive using the suggested DVD structure and then set as import directories.
These play fine using my MVP but they will only play from a PC using the Sage Client if I map a drive to the DVD directories. If the MVP can do this without the mapping, then why can't the Sage client software? Is there a way around this? Thanks. |

Thanks for the feedback. I guess that make sense. I'm surprised it isn't at least an option for the full clients even at the expense of the server overhead. I assume it's the same issue for the placeshifter client? If that's the case, then it is pretty limited for DVD playback.
Are there any hacks/workarounds to the issue? Last edited by tobin1; 11-30-2008 at 08:16 PM. |

DVDs require access to multiple files simultaneously, the VOBs for video/menus, and the IFO files for the navigation/chapter logic. This means DVDs can't be streamed. SageClient needs direct access to the filesystem for DVDs, because it's navigation logic runs locally on the client so it needs access to both sets of files (which can't be streamed). It works on the MVP because the navigation logic is executed on the server.

Tobin1:
how do you acheive playing dvd on mvp ? I tried to rip my wedding dvd to hard drive but I only got a black screen There's a menu at the begining and I only see the color dots for selection but no video. If I press OK within the menu, the dvd looks like starting, audio seems to be ok, but still no video. Thanks |
