Recommendations For Touch Screen

I am looking for an all-in-one touch screen pc to mount under a kitchen cabinet. Ideal specs would be:

Small (20" or less)
Energy efficient
Touch screen
Capable of running at least placeshifter in HD
Vesa mountable
Quiet
Wireless (N preferred)
Under $600

The only one I found that seems to fit the bill is the Eeetop ET2002T. This is probably on the big size of what I am looking for but may work. Just looking for other suggestions. I also considered the Archos 9 but this may be on the small side, doesn't appear to be easily mountable, and the power adapter sticks out of the side.

Thanks!

Another option is to go with the Acer Revo, its small enough that you can attach it to the back of the monitor and it'll be like an all-in-one. Couple the Revo with a touchscreen monitor. The Revo with the Atom 330 should be able to handle HD playback. It's likely gonna cost a bit more than $600 though.

I don't find touchscreens work real great with Sagetv. Nothing like they do with windows media center.

This new touchscreen TV from Vidabox is pretty cool. I bet it is a little over your budget however

Personally I use a HP thin client computer (specifically the t5720) to run a touchscreen (ELO brand) in my kitchen. However, I doubt the specs of the t5720 are good enough to display HD video. But to be honest I've never tried. Maybe I will now just to see how it does.

I just got a touch screen system from shuttle:

This is a barebone, so you need a 2.5" hard drive and notebook memory. But I still payed just over $500 for the system. I preferred this over the Eeetop because it is wall-mountable and really just the size of a monitor. It is hanging in my hallway now and is used as the main server for my security system. It uses an Intel Atom 330 (so it has two cores) but only comes with Intel graphics 945. I have not tried placeshifter yet, but used placeshifter on my laptop computer with lower specs than this one where it works fine. Overall, it seems like a pretty neat system and it looks pretty nice hanging on my wall ;-)

Thomas, on your laptop, can you stream HD well with placeshifter? I am leaning towards overspec'ing just so everything works smoothly. Otherwise, I will go with a LCD TV/HD-200 setup. I wanted a PC/touch screen as it is more versitile and I use HomeSeer so I could use to inface with HomeSeer as well as watch TV.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Honestly, for a kitchen-under cabinet type design, I think I'd much prefer having JUST a touchscreen with speakers there. Put the brain up above the cabinets or something. There is quite a selection of touchscreen's available. Certainly more options than tablets/all-in-one's...

I hear you. But then I need to get power into the cabinets somwhere, lose cabinet space, there are additional cables, cords, etc. that need to be hidden. All-in-one just has a power cord. The point is well taken, slim pickin's for this application.

Eh, that type of thing are what I LIKE about this hobby...

WAF will be critical. The cleaner the better. I'm even considering going with the Archos 9 and passing on mounting it. I can just set it on the counter if I want to watch TV in there or take it with me where ever.

The new iPad would be nice as well but I can't run Sage on it.

OK, I just installed placeshifter real quick to give you a more realistic picture. It seems to be working OK. I played a 1080i video. The Atom CPU is definitely at its limits there so it is not as silky smooth as on my client. Lower resolution videos seems to play just fine. Of course, you can always enforce a lower resolution and have the server transcode it accordingly if that is acceptable to you. Overall, it seems good enough for a secondary screen but it is definitely not over-speced.

Thomas, thank you very much for testing this. I really appreciate this so I don't buy something I will regret later.

I am a bit torn at this point. The Eee ET2002T seems to be the best option excluding the size (quiet, good performance, decent speakers, etc.). I am also considering a mini PC that I hide and a separate touch screen. The issues with this setup are more cables, touch screens are hard to find and expensive and I'm not sure how they will be for displaying HD video.

Decisions decisions. Part of me says just get a nice LED HDTV and an extender and forget the touch screen but it's a shame as it would be nice to have a control panel there as well.
