iPod touch and SageTV

I did some searches and can't find a straight answer.

I'm looking to find a method for which I can watch my sageTV recordings on a iPod touch.

My thoughts:
1) convert recordings outside of sage to be iPod touch compliant (easy, but time consuming and not automatic, but I could use SJQ to automate it)

2) if I have the webserver install (nielm's), and use the iPod to go to my sage's website, could it transcode it on the fly to the iPod, or is there some plugin that isn't available? If it's possible how would I do it?

Nice... looks like that takes care of #1.

Anyone know about #2 for a more on the fly option?

Orb works adequately (most of the time).. though I'd like a better option too.

Does iPodifier work with H.264 files from the HD-PVR. It doesn't really mentione this on their web site.

Not out of the box. I think there may be a way to get it to work with the latest ffmpeg and the right parameters. I tried and couldn't get it working. I'd like to be able to do it too if anyone knows how.

Here is my manual method for number 1. Pretty simple and direct.

I have SJQ set up to run comskip on all the scheduled recordings on my server. Most everything I record and convert is from QAM on my HDhomerun.
Comskip creates a .vprj file on the server.
I open the recordings folder from my desktop PC and right click on the .vprj file of the show I want to transfer to my daughters Ipod touch. I open the .vprj file in videoredo. I can verify that all the cuts are where I want.

Once I edit any cuts that aren't right (rarely need to) I select save as and save the output file to a folder on my desktop. This only takes about as long as it would take to copy the entire file with commercials over. I don't have iTunes on the sage server and who wants to go down in the basement closet to plug up the ipod.
I then use Handbrake to convert the .mpg to a .mp4 file for the ipod touch. Handbrake has a preset for the iphone and itouch.

This give me a file that will play perfectly on the touch. I think I need to tweak the quality downward a little because my files are still rather large for example:
American Idol 2-18-09 7.85 gb as an mpg vs 985 mb as an mp4 (480 x 270)
However they look pretty good even when played on my 42"LCD through my HD200.

If I keep doing this I will probably write a batch file to automate the entire process and control it with SJQ as you suggested in the original post. I looked at ipodifier and it does look like a pretty good solution if I could get it to edit out the commercials. The ipodifier wiki talks about editing the registry in order to preprocess the videos with comskip (might be beyond me.....)
