WinTV-HVR-1600 - Which connection for the cable

I have been reading for about an hour trying to find out what each of the 2 f connectors do on the WinTV-HVR-1600. Sorry if this is duplicated!

I got the standard cable to work by plugging into the top connector. So at least it works and I see the "normal" signals.

Can I use both connectors and record 2 channels at the same time?

If I want to get the HD channels on Charter Cable and the regular channels too, how do I do that?

The top connector is for the analog channels, so you can just plug your cable in and get channels 1-99 or plug the cable from the back of your cable box in and get whatever channel the cable box is tuned to. You would have to use an IR blaster to change the cable box channel. Or you could use the S-Video to do the same. The second connector (the shorter one) plugs to either an antenna or your cable line (you have to split the cable to plug into the two connectors). This one will tune your Clear QAM (digital and HD channels, but usually only the local networks like NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, etc). If you use both connectors you can record two channels at the same time, but only one channel will be digital and the other will be analog, but not both can be digital or both be analog. I recommend reading the FAQ on Hauppauge's site:

THANK YOU! I looked all over to try and find that data!

Are there any tricks for getting the local HD channels on the cable? I guess add the source and then tell Sage to scan for channels?
