USB ports and HD-PVR
Perhaps this will help someone......
If I plug my HD-PVR's into the USB ports on my motherboard, it's a crap shoot when I use them. I will get frequent "NO SIGNAL" messages and missed recordings. It requires a power cycle of the offending HD-PVR. If I plug the HD-PVR's into the USB to PCIe ports I installed on my SageTV server I never have a problem. In both cases I make sure the units are residing on separate USB controllers. I discovered this when I decided to untangle the mass of wiring behind my set-up. In the process I had switched from the PCIe USB ports to the motherboard USB ports. I have switched back and forth several times to confirm my findings.

There is a large range of 'quality' when it comes to USB controllers. Normaly, the contollers built into most motherboard chipsets is on the lower end of that scale.

Make sure power save switching is disabled in device manager.

Power switching off sounds like the problem. For those who have never looked for this setting before, it is an option in each 'USB Root Hub.'
That also will probably solve a problem I'm having with my usb hard drive... or the usb port has been powered down by windows. does it come back if you unplug and replug the drive? |
