Sage VERSON 2

I know it's been asked, but haven't seen any updates. When will the new (beta) version be ready for trial download to the publuc?

I LOVE what I see in the new beta, and it may just be what I'm looking for, but I will need to try it first then buy/ register it.

The current version is not as refined as BEYONDTV, theis new one looks very COMPETITIVE and I like the EPG better.

Let us test teh BETA!!!

They mention in about a month though no firm date. All good things come to those that wait. Though I have been using it happily for several months .

BETA TESTING

I think SAGE TV needs to get VALUBLE input from a NON-SAGE user to COMPARE AND CONTRAST the program and it's features.

Sometimes being familiar with a project or program can hide issues that the average joe can pick up on and view as dis-tasteful.

Ever work so long and hard on something, you fail to see the problem right in front of you?

A fresh set of eyes would be a good thing.

As your target customer, I'd like to volunteer. Im the average consumer with enough knowledge to build a PC, but NOT intimately knowledgeable enough to be blinded by what may or may not work.

Do I get the job?

I believe Frey's current policy regarding hiring new beta testers is to require them to fill out the job application found here. Just be aware that due to the overwhelming desire to get a job as a beta tester, Frey has instituted a fee that must be paid before the application will be considered. The last I heard, all job applications will be considered for free after the release of version 2. (Note that this was the current status of the employment practices at the time of writing this post. Policies may change at any point w/o my knowledge or input.)

Just realize that this will only be temporary employment or an internship, the fee will still be required for full-time employment

Yes, but I was quite clear that there will be no fee to have the application _considered_. You are correct, though: if you wish to guarantee acceptance for continuing work past your probationary period, the fee will still be required. This all seems pretty convoluted. The worst part is that once accepted for full time employment, you still cannot expect any paycheck! I just don't get it... Is that really any way to retain employees??

Geez, All I wanted was to test the software and report back bugs or what doesn't work for me!

Pay to test out and use someones software? Never. I just wanted an honest contrast to snapstreams BEYOND TV app, which I'm leaning towards buying. The sad thing is, SAGE TV 2 looks better and is feature rich, but I can't wait for ever to try it, I need a PVR NOW. I won't be in the market two months from now when this is released. I'll be waiting for SAGETV3 before I switch again, money is TIGHT!

Hey, for years Microsoft has charged us for Beta testing their software. Just kidding broderp as I understand your concerns.

You do realize we were kidding right? Well sort of at least. Currently Beta 2 is only open to registered users, however once released (or possibly once it goes RC) it will be available for free trial.

If you really want to try it out, give 1.4 a shot, it has most all of the core PVR functionality like Favorites, IR, etc. The PQ and functionality is all there, 2.0 is largely a user interface improvement; the core PVR functionality was already really good. Just give it the two weeks and see if it does what you want.

I know you were just kidding regarding the actual releases being 'beta', but just to give a real example: the MS betas aren't open at all -- you have to ask & be accepted into their beta programs, or be invited due to past beta participation.

Anyway... it is Frey's choice who can beta test. It used to be a closed beta with only selected testers. Besides, if you really wanted to wait for a full SS/SageTV comparison... you'll have to wait even longer. The last time I checked out their forums, there seemed to be a version 3.5 in closed beta for select testers. I'm guessing you won't see that one with its (rumored?) multi-tuner capability for a while either.
