Ripped DVD menu's not working on windows 7

This is somewhat frustrating for me but my menu's aren't working for my ripped DVD's on my new windows 7 box. They work with TMT3 but not with sage.

Codec is arcsoft and EVR is the playback.

I have the same problem using Internal Microsoft decoders in win 7. The menus work, but I cannot see which menu item is highlighted. The same menus work fine on my HD200 extender.

Works for me as well in Windows 7.

Are you sure you have the correct decoder and EVR selected in the "DVD Settings" menu (as well as in the "Video/Audio Settings")?

Yeah, sounds like you are using OverLay mode, which won't work with mode DVD decoders. Remember, the 'DVD' settings are different than the Audio/Video settings.

this is the exact issue that I am having, I can navigate through the menu's but the menu's don't light up to let me know where I am.

Also I have noticed the taskbar switches to a white instead of blue when sagetv starts.

It looks like Sage defaults to Overlay as the renderer for DVD's when you do a fresh install. As mentioned above there are separate menus in the Sage Detailed Setup screen for DVD's and all other Video. If using Win7 - set them both to EVR if you can. If set to overlay, it will cause Win7 to switch from the Aero Glass interface (with the semi-transparent menu bars) to Classic mode and the DVD menus won't "highlight" as you navigate to show you which menu item is selected (at least that's the behavior I saw).

that was the issue, DVD was set to overlay instead of EVR.

Menu's are now fixed.

I had this same thing happening on a new install, plus some other strange behavior, namely a quick flickering to black whenever starting or stopping a video.

I found this thread and set the video renderer from overlay to EVR and it fixed the flickering -- but not the DVD menus.

Tonight I was trying to watch a Austrian DVD and the subtitles weren't working (oddly, another DVD last night played subtitles perfectly, must have been a different type?). For a while I thought it was intentional, but after about 10 minutes of German and Russian I figured something was wrong.

I suspected it had to do with the same problem I was having with the DVD menus. So I went into the DVD settings to double check the Overlay/EVR thing and on a whim switched my DVD Video Decoder from Sage Default MPEG to Nvidia's PureVideo (which I have on a 30 day trial, but turned off when I thought I didn't need it).

Using nVidia's decoder fixed both the DVD menu issue and the subtitles on this particular DVD.

Renderer: EVR
Decoder: Not Sage Default MPEG Decoder

Just in case this helps someone else.

I spent long enough troubleshooting this, I won't have time to watch the movie tonight.

I started a similar thread here before running into this one about the Arcsoft DVD decoder not displaying menu markers when playing DVD's. Based on your suggestions, I changed the Renderer to EVR for both Video /Audio and DVD while using Arcsoft as the codec. Unfortunately, I still cannot see the DVD menu markers.

Something interesting that came up in the previous thread is that my ATI HD4650 may not be up to the task based on another user's experience. I also see some jerky movement in the picture quality when watching a show in 1080i and using the Arcsoft or Microsoft DTV-DVD codec. What is your experience? Could there be another issue why I'm not seeing the DVD markers after switching to EVR? I am running Sage 7 on a Windows 7 quad code server.
