fast forwarding?

I have Pinnacle TV software that came with my TV tuner and my problem with it is that when it records a show it creates an MPG file that doesn't have the ability to fast forward. If I convert that file to another format I can then fast forward but it is an extra step and it is much lower in quality.

I am looking for a DVR program that will create I high-quality video file with the ability to rewind and fast-forward that file. NOT though some interface that I have to load, but a file itself that I can see on my network and play back on my TV.

I tried Sage TV but the files it produces also do not have the ability to fast-forward and rewind.

What tuner is it? Maybe this is something about how that tuner works.

I think it's a Pinnacle USB tuner.

What are you using the play back the file that wont allow you FF RW?

Are you able to FF/RW the recordings made in SageTV when playing them in SageTV?

What mpeg2 decoder/codec are you using in WMP?

yes i can ff in sage. don't know what codecs im using

The problem is probably related to the demux/decoder being used by WMP. Use something like graphstudio to see what filters windows is choosing for a given media file.

What version windows (XP, Vista, 7) are you using?

My guess is that you'll need to install some better codecs.
