Verizon FIOS TV standby mode

My motorola HD QIP 71001 keeps going into standby mode, causing sage to record hours of the screensaver. Verizon confirms that their latest firmware update in November or December changed the energy saver settings to make the STB go into standby after 'an hour or so' of inactivity, but can't tell me how to disable it or go back to the old settings.

Anyone else have this problem? I'm about to switch to evil Comcast just to get a STB that'll stay on.

What does the front panel readout do when it goes into standby? I think my QIP6200? on fios does not go into standby (portland, OR market). it is always on as far as I am aware - although it has not been recording much lately because the tv studios like to take a 3 to 4 month xmas vacations.
You might ask FIOS to get you a QIP6200 instead. It might be that that firmware has not rolled out in my market yet.

The QIP6200 also powers off, but only if it is tuned to a channel you are not sub'd to. OP, check to see that your Sage guide only includes channels you actually are authorized to receive.

There is or was a plug-in called STB keep awake, or STB keep alive or something. Basically it would send a random button press to the box periodically to keep it awake.

Search is your friend.

Not sure about serial, but here's some help if you plan on using firewire.

That looks like linux binary/bash scripts. I'd have to install cygwin for that to work under windows 7 64 bit wouldn't i?

Fios by serial? I wasn't aware that was possible. The menu command will act as a discrete on and you can send it via a remote keypress or via firewire. As part of my nightly housekeeping, I have Autohotkey send firewire a menu then exit commands to make sure the box is on in case of a software update, and also on boot in case of a power outage. Havn't missed a recording in some time due to an off box.

yep the older SD (QIP-2500) boxes have serial ports that are enabled in some markets. If it's not possible over serial i'll buy another USBUIRT; IF sage can handle two or more USBUIRT'S.

Remove Standby setting for FIOS

Go to: Menu>Settings>System>Media Server Settings>Auto Power Off
Then set to NONE
