HDHR Install Problem

I finally got off the fence yesterday and purchased a SageTV license.. Been reading the forums and messing with the trial off and on for a bit.

I have a brand new install of XP with a brand new install of SageTV 6.6 on it. I installed the HDHR software and am able to tune it using quickTV.

I followed the instructions (i think!) for setup.. I have selected SageTV as my main application. I have also tried "Repair/Reinstall Windows Components". I can't seem to find any HDHR logs and the only message it sends to the system event viewer is a successful install message.

Once I get into sage I am get an error when I go to setup the tuner.

I see this on the screen:

 ERROR (-4,0x80040154): There was an problem using the capture device. Please be sure you have the latest drivers installed for your capture device, and that they are installed correctly.

I think the failed loading frq file is probably the root cause of the issue.. But I can't seem to figure out how to correct and have not seen any solutions when searching this board.

I read in one thread that I should have .scn files created by HDHR in my Sage directory.. But I don't and am not sure how to make the HDHR put them there.


Any tips would be appreciated.

The HDHR software creates the *.scn files. Did you use the HDHomeRun setup program? If not then use and make sure the main Application is set properly. Then insure the tuner source is also correctly set. Then find all the channels available, when you click OK or Apply that should create the *.scn files in Sage. Then when you run Sage and setup the tuners it will use the *.scn files to create the *.frq files.

Yep.. I have done that.. A few times. Main application is set to sage. I did some more looking and found this on the Sage HDHR Setup thread:

As of v20090411, SiliconDust has updated their software to no longer create .scn files when using an HDHR tuner in Digital Antenna mode. Now, you should set up an antenna-based HDHR tuner solely in SageTV, doing the full channel scan in SageTV's Channel Setup menu. Any needed channel/station remapping should be done as mentioned in the "Remapping Stations for EPG data using ATSC or QAM Digital Tuners" section of the SageTV PDF manual's coverage of the Channel Setup menu, found near p. 164.

So it sounds like I should NOT have .scn files, at least that is how I read it.

Since now I don't think I should have .scn files.. I am at a total loss.

Creation of scn files depends on whether you are using the HDHR to tune OTA or QAM channels; these are the instructions:
HDHR setup for Windows

It looks like trying to use the tuner is the issue; not just a config issue. Make sure both SageTV and the HDHR drivers are up to date. Are any other apps already using the HDHR?

Thanks. Sorry my initial description wasn't more complete. I am doing OTA only. So, as I read those instructions, I shouldn't need .scn files? Right?

So I am on SageTV6.6.2.218 which I think is the latest.
I am on the 20091024 version of HDHR software.

No other applications are using the HDHR that I know of.. I can start the quickTV application that comes with the HDHR on this same machine and tune channels without issue.
