Circles - Stuttering on Sage Videos and DVDs
I've noticed when playing Sage Videos as well as DVDs sometimes it just freezes and the circle just spins forever. Other times it will stutter for a short time and then continue. When I go to the task manager, I notice on my Sage client that the CPU is not taking up a lot of resources at all.
I know it's not a bad dvd because it does it on ALL dvds and it does it on recorded sage videos as well as imported videos on my Sage Client. Also, on my upstairs Sage client when stopping a video it will sometimes say "this program has performed an illegal operation" and sage quits. I have the latest version of Java. I'm wondering if it is a decoder problem is there some way to just completely uninstall all decoders and sage software and then reinstall everything? Any ideas? Thanks, |

Mike,
The first thing I'd check is the java heap size. There are loads of posts on that subject. Tom

It could also be a sign of heavy traffic on your network or that your router/switch isn't working very well. I found that using a switch is better than using a router, and if your using an older router, it may be limited to 10mps instead of the more common 100 or better yet the 1gbs models. At 10 mps I was getting a lot of studdering, circles and pixalation. Once I converted over to a 100 mps switch, no problems with those issues.
Good luck! Todd |

Tried all that. One thing I'm not sure of with the Java heap size is if I should adjust it on both my server and my workstations. I currently have it set to 1gb on the server and 512K on my workstations still no luck. Also, it even does it on mp4 files which are only about 5 MB/min or under 1mbs on a 1GB switch but the cables and cards are 100 mbs.
Also - it does it on a DVD on a workstation so that eliminates the idea that it could be anything on the network. The fact it does this wierd stutter every so often when playing a DVD on the workstation through sage makes me think it has something to do with the decoders. But, I suppose it could be something java related as well because it never used to do this before a java update way way back when. I'd love to install a much older version of java from at least a year back (not sure how though and not sure if that is the issue). Thanks, Mike Last edited by mike1961; 12-24-2009 at 12:23 PM. |
