TV recordings in a folder structure

Im new to this so forgive my ignorance but when I record tv shows on my sagemc setup I get one big ugly list of all the shows in no particular order. What I have noticed browsing through this forum is that some users seem to have a folder structure that they're tv shows are stored in with very fancy graphics. Is this all done by an addon or is there a feature or setting to store recordings this way?

Thanks,
Eric

I use the TV Explorer addon. I like it a lot. All my tv recordings record to a single directory.

All of my recording record to a single folder now. I want recordings to be stored in specific folders. for example I would like seperate folders for "the office" and "30 rock"

Is that possible with TV explorer?

Thanks

I don't know about SageMC but I know Sage has the capablity to group by show title, I assume it's just a sorting/filtering option in SageMC.

I think the OP is referring to folder organization on the HDD. If that is the case, there really isnt an OOTB method to accomplish this (or perhaps any method). It should be possible to have SJQ 3.0 move the recordings to a specific folder and relink the airing info with the file after it is recorded. But this has its problems too... read the SJQ 3.0 for caveats/warnings/etc. Sage will not record to show folder directories (its been asked for in the past so if you submit a feature request the more likely it is that sage will add support for it).

TVE groups the airings for display purposes at the UI. It combines recorded and imported content and merges the display into a single seemless interface (yes it has its bugs but im working on them ). It does nothing on the recording side to decide where the file is physically recorded to (and can't... the core sage api's handle that).

Yes that's correct. For display purposes you can sort/filter in a multitude of ways.

Yes, I finally stumbled across the filter that will organize shows by folder instead of a single page with all recordings. It would definately be nice to send recorded files automatically to specific folders but I can live with this. So am I understanding this correctly? TV Explorer will allow you to merge recorded files with downloaded files in the recorded tv section?

TVExplorer merges recorded tv and imported tv (that has metadata indicating it is TYPE = TV) into its own interface. The interface replaces the default My TV section of sagemc. Check out the link in my signature for a more detailed explanation and some screenshots...

So when you import your ripped tv shows with the proper meta-data tags do you just dump everything in the \videos\sagetv\ directory ? Can it remain in an organized folder or do all of the files have to sit in the main folder like the recorded content?

Thanks,
Eric

the imported videos can be in any folder structure you want. I recommend putting them in one of your video import folders (not the recording folder). By default TVE will scan/search all your imported videos and find the ones that are TV. There are also options to limit its search to only certain directories. I recommend you read at least the first post of the TVE thread and then ask any remaining questions you have over there (then all TVE related questions are in one place).
