Slow navigation in extender mode

Navigating video files has become quite slow. It did not seem to be that slow until I recently updated folder art. Each of my videos is in a folder by itself. It now takes minutes in order to browse a few folders of videos. What can I do to speed this up? It is not that slow when navigating on PC desktop...just when navigating on my HD200 in extender mode. Would SageMC speed this up? Could there be too much information in my folders? I have my movies info, folder art and background art.

How large are the thumbnails (dimensions)? The larger the image, the longer it takes to load & the more memory each one takes.

Way too big. Thumbnails should be in the area of about 180 x 252. They're thumbnails, not backgrounds. And as you can see you have a big performance hit at your size.

Will installing SageMC speed things up? Should I get rid of the backgrounds and my movies files? Would it speed things up to not have any thumbnails in the video folder?

Installing SageMC will not speed up anything because it would still need to read the thumbnails. Removal of anything other than your movies files would of course speed it up.

Which is faster; a small folder art pic + video or just the video without folder art? I ask because if there is no folder art then Sage has to create a thumbnail from the first few seconds of the video.

But once Sage creates it then it saves it and won't have to create it again.

So it creates a thumbnail and saves it but does it save the thumbnails inserted into the folder? or does it have to read each user inserted thumbnail each time it goes to that folder?

Is there any way to get Synopsis information dislayed for non recorded video files such as DVDs that were ripped as a single mpeg? I have my movies meta data and so on.

Thank you for the help!

Look at a plugin called Batch Metadata Tool. (BMT) Installing this will allow you to get metadata for recordings , dvds, video files etc based on movie, show name or episode name.

Does SageMC need to be installed in order for the Metadata collected by BMT to be displayed in extender mode? Will metadata collected by Yammm work? or by MyMovies?

In your opinion is SageMC a good thing to do? My dilemma is that before HD200 I was running VMC extended to an X280n for about 6 months. My wife never got used to all of the hang ups and problems associated with the VMC/x280n marriage but she did get used to the video synopsis provided by MB and MM and the fast navigation. Pulling out all of the thumbnails and metadata I had in each video folder has greatly sped up the navigation but she continues to request video synopsis information. Overall we are very happy with the system and adding a little more to the video information would be icing on the cake so to speak. I am hesitant to install SageMC because it seems like it may create more problems than it solves.

Is it possible to get metadata displayed for a video in a folder without SageMC?

Will changing JAVA heap size improve navigation speed?

Also, I found that My Movies has an option to put a Sage properties file in each video folder. Once that folder is there I now get the movie's synopsis when I view video details. It is a start!

To a point. Increasing the heap size can speed up navigation on a HD200. I forgot about the latest version of My Movies having some SageTV options for metadata now.

You are right, increase JAVA Heap size is at best a marginal improvement in navigation speed through video files. I have put a folder.jpg and the properties file in each folder and that did slow navigation down but I think it is now tolerable. I may just eliminate the folder.jpg, which is 500x300 and see if that speeds things up. Is there a way to not show thumbnails or folder art?

How do you have your video files/folders setup? Do you run in extender mode?
