questions regarding m2ts and blu-ray

I use clown_bd to merge the segmented m2ts files into a single file. I then stored that file in a blu-ray structure for SageTV to find.

When I try to play the file (on my client pc) it shows as a BD and says that it cannot play it. When I move the m2ts file from beneath the blu-ray structure, SageTV finds it, marks it as a video and plays it just fine Is this expected? Seems kinda dumb . . .

Secondly I have three such files and two play fine, while the third does not play within SageTV. They all three play fine in WMP or graphedit, just not SageTV.

Video 1: AC3 5.1 audio track
Video 2: DTS-MA 5.1 audio track
Video 3: DTS 5.1 audio track

The first two videos play fine in Sage, but not the 3rd video. Once again all three play find in WMP on the same machine.

Ideas?

thanks,
dave

Yes, the PC software can't handle Blu-ray structures so it doesn't try to play it (extenders can handle Blu-ray structures fine, and play the longest playlist.

What's the video format? What does Sage say when it doesn't play?

The video format:

Video 1: h264 1080P
Video 2: h264 1080P@24fps
Video 3: h264 1080P

Playback error there was a problem rendering the audio portion.

Believe it or not I fixed the problem by renaming the files from .ts to .m2ts.

Seems SageTV will construct the graph using dshow defaults for .m2ts but not for .ts. I suspect that they like to use their own splitter for .ts files.

that was an easy fix, but seems quite shortsighted by SageTV . . .

But what are the video codecs? If I had to guess I'd say the last one was VC1 and you might want to bug that to SageTV.

They all use the Cyberlink h264/AVC decoder is that what you mean?

Actually the graph created to play them is the same for the Video 2 and 3 as they are both DTS, while Video 1 uses AC3 decoder.

Hm, Sage will definitely want to hear about an H.264 transport stream that doesn't play.

aside from that, another option is to use makemkv instead of clownbd and put it in an MKV container. If you are removing all the blu-ray features from it, and making a single file anyways, why keep it in a blu-ray structure?
