Playback errors since patch

Ever since I upgraded my SageTV from 6.5.something to 6.6.218 I get frequent problems with playback on some (not all) recorded media:

Code:
There was a Playback Error in playback. Details:
sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0x80040217): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback.
I have not made any other changes which would affect this

My video settings remain as follows:
Video Renderer: VMR9
MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: ffdshow
MPEG4 Playback: DirectShow
H.264 Video Decoder Filter: Default
DScaler: Disaled
Audio Renderer: HDA XPLOSION
MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter: AC3Filter

I am attaching the log file from when I run SageTV and try to play the video

If I try to play these same videos on the same PC using Media Player Classic it has no problems - plays whole video just fine.

Update:

I found that if I change the MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter from ffdshow to either Default or SageTV those videos now work. However I then lose my ability to display subtitles on my movies (VobSub)

Is there a way I can make everyone here happy? Display subtitles and these videos that are causing playback exceptions via ffdshow ??

You should be able to make ffdshow load on RGB video.. this will allow it to be decoded by the Sage Decoder, then pass the decoded video to ffdshow to add the subtitles. You'll have to enable RGB in the ffdshow CODECS tab, and also potentially add ffdshow video decoder to sage't video post processing line in the sageclient.properties... don't know for sure if that will work, but it MIGHT..
