no boot after video card upgrade for sage
I was recommended by some sagetv buff's to install a graphics card with video output to tv instead of this junkie pc-tv converter so I can watch sage on my tv, so I took the advice and picked up a nvidea pci (not express) card with hardware decoder and fan and all the other little neat bells and whistels, but when I put the card in and try to boot the pc all I get is a split second of fans and then a bunch or beeps from the mother board, when I remove the card the pc boots just fine. I have a 240w power supply and that seems kind of light to me but im not sure. Hope this gives you enough info to maybe guide me in the right direction. Thanks.

Wow, 240watts. flashbacks to 1998 . What is the rest of your hardware? If you're running onboard video, did you shut that off before installing the new card?
Sounds like your PC may be way too old in general if you've tried shutting off onboard video before installing the discreet card. |

i did NOT try shutting off the onboard first, is that done in bios or through windows? I am running xp and the pc is only 3 yrs old but it is a micro-atx style (proving to be a stupid pc for a media server) but anyway it is small form factor but i am just tinkering with sage before commiting to a new pc for the sagetv dvr. Thanks

Yeah, that setting will be in your bios. What are the rest of your specs?

I am not to saavy on computers, but it is an HP pent4 3ghz processor, 120gb hdd, 512mb ram. I use a hauppauge 1600 for capture and the card I got for video is an nvidea 4000. I don't know how to configure stuff in bios and I sure don't know how to get my screen back to the internal video card if it still don't work. Do you think I should scrap this pc and get a new one for my sage server? but I don't know if that means I have to buy new software from sage or what? I should've just left it alone but I thought a new video card would make all the difference you know.

I think you should try getting in to the bios first. Whoever manufactured that PC will have instructions, just give it a google. Usually, you hit 'DEL' or 'F2' to get in to the bios while the PC is booting up.

thats the "browngoat" named "Zero".....hence the username. Just out of curiosity, I do have a dell 4600 (still a few yrs old but works like a clock) if I can't seem to get the graphics card to work in th HP is there a way to move sagetv software to that pc? Like a HDD swap, forgive me if that is stupid. Its just that my dell is only used to surf the net and it has the full sized case with all the room in the world for the cards plus it has a 400 watt power supply. If all else fails I will bring the HP to a computer shop and have them install the video card.
